I hate Tom Cruise.
I used to watch a movie because he was in it, I now don't watch a movie because he's in it.

Why does everyone hate Tom Cruise? Where to begin...

And the first Top Gun sucked, as has just about every fighter pilot movie. Granted, I wanted to be a fighter pilot, so the fact that EVERY fighter pilot movie is FULL of technical mistakes, is a bit of a turn off.

Scientology is a greedy, murderous cult.

Don't ask me for any information or I'll give you all my sources and trust me, you can't imagine what kind of horrific acts Scientology has done.

Go to youtube and look up;

the unfunny truth about scientology

Lisa McPerson 17 days
-Lisa lost her life

Paulette Cooper
-Anythign regarding Operation Freakout.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulette_Cooper

Mark Bunker

Tom Cruise Scientology

Also, look for Paulette Cooper's story through yahoo or something. She even wrote a book, The Scandal of Scientology.

Also, if you want some light-hearted humor and spirit lifting, look up March 15th scientology.

On March 15th, thousands of people doned maskes, glasses and scarves and LEGALLY picketed out front of their local Scientology orgs. Mass amounts of Rick Rolling, Bel-Airing, and Mudkipz.

I personally think the whole scientology thing is a major sidelight as to why he is disliked. John Travolta practices scientology as well and he doesnt draw the negatives that Cruise does.

I was a huge fan of the first Top Gun even though I realized it was loaded with tech errors. Some of those errors are for the benefit of filming...for instance trying to get to "dueling" jets into the same camera frame shot requires them to be FAR closer than they ever would be under true combat conditions. Plus the whole canopy to canopy inverted shot is farce as well. I dont think anyone on the planet flies jets closer than the Blue Angels and even they dont attempt such a maneuver.
I think the biggest knock against Cruise is that Top Gun was such a successful film that he basically has "strong armed" everyone he has worked with to conform almost every other character he has played to be some other version of Maverick. Cocky young whatever has a rough go round, knocks him down only to see him stage a heroic comeback of some sort. The only other film I have seen him do of late that I enjoyed was "The Last Samurai"...but even that still had a touch of his "formula for success". He has even gone as far as firing any agent or management that has tried to steer him in a different direction. Even Arnold was able to pull off a comedy or two and thats a sad comparison to make.

I cant say how glad I am that he passed on the role of Tony Stark.
