Oh and my theory on why the calender ends is who ever wrote it just got tired and said screw it. 1500 years is long enough. Some one else can continue it.

Both Mayan and Aztec cultures were Lunar based. IIRC, the Aztec calendar doesnt just end. The Mayan doesnt really end either, it just starts all over again.
