*warning: a slight rant lies ahead*

So the wife and I are planning on moving to AZ in the near future. After much talking we both agreed to sell the GTO seeing as how the cost of moving it and our actual use of it really didn't make it a necessity to keep. Anyway...

We sold it to Carmax about three weeks ago. I was periodically checking their website to see what they'd be offering it for and it finally shows up on their site...
04 GTO

And the idiots took the time to remove the really expensive SUPER F-ING NICE TINT! WTF??? It was premium FormulaOne metallic -- did not exceed legal tint limit so I see no reason for it. They also list the tires as some generic 225 size tire when they're actually nearly new Eagle F-1 all-seasons in a different size.

Oh, and apparently they haven't noticed the jet hot coated headers and they probably reset the PCM to remove the dyno tuning I had done to it...

Ah well, I'm not bitter - just confused why they would go to the trouble of removing the tint.

I miss the car and someone is going to get a good deal on it, but we plan on getting a new Camaro or something similar down the road anyway.

What do you care it's their car now wink

Some one probably thought the tint was either over or borderline and said pull it.

The specs I bet are generic to the GTO.

Yep I just checked a couple other 04s and they all list the same way.

I could of told you about Carmax. Went their once, and don't plan on ever going back. They had thousands of cars, but the cheapest was over $20k. What a joke.

Well heres a list of cars 10-18k within 100 miles of my zip.

http://www.carmax.com/enUS/search-result...&zip=30066&D=40

And a search of cars 100 miles within Orlando.

http://www.carmax.com/enUS/search-result...&zip=32802&D=40

One nice thing is if a car you want is on another lot as long as it's within X miles they will transfer it to your lot for free other wise it depends how far away. I think the highest I saw was a coast to coast transfer and that was from Roseville CA, to Orlando was 849. Not bad if it's the car that has all the things you want. Of course the closer it is the cheaper.

I just think their prices are too high for cars. My experience isn't far fetched, it is the truth. No lies Herc. We were just scoping it out, and couldn't believe it. Things probably have changed.

I would imagine that the Carmax service regulations say that when they prep a car for their lot they are going to make it as close to stock as possible. Most car shoppers are a flighty lot and things like tint and mods will make them shy away. To most it signals that the car was owned by someone who dogged and abused it. This unfortunately is a popular misconception since most "carguys" I know take very good care of their cars...but I have seen a few traded in that have had more than their share of passes down the 1/4mile and were flogged pretty hard. I wouldnt want a used car that had been treated that way. I'm not saying yours was...its just the image people percieve when they see a modded car on used lot.

I've never raced my car but I'd be willing to bet if I wanted to trade it thats exactly the perception people would take...that it was an abused "hot rod"

Carmax is good. My brother bought a 2001 lincoln towncar with 65,000 miles on it and it was only 8,000 dollars with and he got the 3 year warranty which hiked the price to 10,000 which is still a good deal.

My nephew has a 2002 explorer and his was 14,000 with 30,00 mile on it which he bought almost two years ago.

Both cars are running good and had no problems except the town car had a bad ignition coil.( the car jerk around 50-60 mph) It was fixed under his warranty.

Thats where Im going to purchase my next car from which will be wayyyyyyy down the road.

The carmax here has car from brand new to 1999.

One of the guys in the building bought his truck from carmax and had no qualms with his buying experience.

I think the biggest draw is the no haggle pricing. Most people just don't know how to haggle and are very intimidated when it's time to talk numbers.
