So lately a few of these wonderful machines have been popping up at used dealers with killer pricetags. I'm talking about the Cobalt SS. I think its pretty sweet, but that might just be me. My friend owned one who moved away and being stock pushed 212 WHP on a dyno with no mods.

Regardless, I have my eyes on a few that are around here , a 06 SS with 44k on the clock for 14995 (CDN Monies) and there is a new 09 (TURBO!) for 27000 knocked down to around 20000 with GM incentives. I swear they're throwing 1000's of dollars at me for being in their dealership LOL.

Anyways, the determining factor on whether or not i trade in the tugboat for one of these guys is insurance. Being 19, looking at a 2 Door Supercharged car isn't looking so hot.

I'll post pics of them in a short while, I guess this can be thrown up for discussion? Has anyone sat and drove a SS ? Turbo'd or S/C'd .. doesn't matter.

Don't get the s/c model. The Turbo'd version is better in every way. It got MUCH better reviews than the s/c did.

If I remember correctly, the latest model of the Cobalt went around the Nurburgring only two seconds slower than the 2010 Camaro. Half the cylinders, and FWD, only two seconds slower. lol Not bad.

Really? Damn. I've heard again, only good things about these cars. I just have to learn to drive a manual car ..

I've heard only good things about the turbo'd model. I didn't hear very many good things about the s/c'd model. But maybe others have.

I think this is about the best bang 4 the buck performance car out there these days. Even the editors at Car & Driver called it a pocket rocket. I'm with Ace tho, I've only read any of those good things about the turbo model...which stands to reason since its the same engine that powers the Solstice GXP/ Sky Redline models...260 ponies in that small car should be quick and fun.

The Cobalt SS(turbo) is the fastest FWD hatch around the ring.

On the heels of that though powertrain aside having had a G5GT for two weeks as a rental I wouldn't buy the car for an every day ride. The trim pieces in the car were falling off. The interior is cramped for a hatch visibility sucked.

For fun SS all the way. For DD I'd look elsewhere.

You can learn to drive a stick in an afternoon. Go out to a rural area and teach yourself. Don't get discouraged, it will take quite a few tries to get it right and learn how the clutch feels and exactly where it starts to engage and disengage.

Make sure you stop on a hill and try to get going while the car is rolling back. Make sure you can do this because their won't be anything worse or more embarrasing than stalling the car on a hill, rolling backwards into someone behind you or not doing anything and everyone honking at you to go.

A few months ago I would definitely had traded my GP for a Cobalt SS, turbo or s/c'ed.

But now my TGP is going 5 speed when my stock trans goes so I don't think I would trade it any longer. (I'll make a progress thread of this, may not be till late this year or next)

Though, stock for stock, I would take a Cobalt SS over a GTP anyday.

My dad has a S/C SS with the manual, that thing is amazing. He's had to have some warranty work done on the trans, I think. For the price, they're very nice. It's a lot of fun to drive, definitely tricky to keep from bouncing off the rev limiter.

Well i'm glad to hear such positive things regarding my possible trade in. I do love the GP but if its my age thats making me get bored of the car or just the fact that i want something a little more practical for me, i think the cobalt SS is right. I'll keep this up to date with what i decide to do and shoot some pics!

Well its looking pretty positive ... my insurance will only go up about 45 bucks , which is amazing since i'll be going from a 4 door non s/c'd boat to a 2 door coupe s/c or t/c and at 19 thats sweet. I just have to look into a few more models available to me and I'll be on my way. Wish me luck
