I don't plan on majoring in anything to do with computers but I want to get a part-time job when im in school that has to deal with a hobby I enjoy which is computers. I have a lot of hardware knowledge and a bunch of knowledge about operating systems and I want to take the A+ Certification Exam. I'm wondering if anyone here has taken it and what I can expect in terms of questions, length and where I can go to take it.

I have a lot of knowledge in Networking, Security, some programming, hardware, software, and operating systems. I think that if I take 1-2 months to study for it I can take it and succeed im sure if it only has to do with operating systems and hardware and whatever I know above.

Anyhow if anyone has any advice that would be great and if anyone here has taken it before they can pitch in and help me know exactly what to expect.

It is a smart test. If you get a question wrong on a specific question it throws 20 more questions about the topic you got wrong.

It has changed I know that since I took it.

Know your printers, know scsi, know old a** crap is what I'm saying in a nut shell. Know your cmd commands too.

It's easy, I didn't study at all and passed (also took in high school, school paid for it). Only questions that tripped me up were ones about the resistance of a speaker or somesuch crap... (used for diagnosis).

I would not bother with A+, most companies could care less. Computers are dependable and replaced every three years, not repaired. Get your Net+ and Security+ and experience, that is what they want.

I'm not looking for a career here that's the thing. I just want to get my foot in the door into a company so I can make some cash while I'm in college studying to do something in art.
