Nice man, good luck.

I moved into my dorm at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign last Wednesday and started classes this past week. I'm a freshman in the Mechanical Engineering program. I'm having a great time down here so far, classes are okay, not much in the way of engineering yet, I gotta get the graduation requirements out of the way first.

nyjets what are you studying?

You young kids! lol. I'm in my third year here at FGCU for Civil Engineering. Classes started last week down here, though.

Freshman year sucks as far as classes are concerned, but it only gets better. Junior/Senior level classes are great.

I actually like my campus housing a lot, I might even stay here another year, our room is huge. I'll post up pics if anyone wants.

Never really had strong desire to go to college when I was young but a few years later I would like to have furthered my education, but I had two kids by then. In all honesty tho the place I would really have liked to attend was WyoTech. To have the top to bottom skills in the auto arena would have been nice I think.

Good Luck to both of you guys!

Thanks everybody. Our room is huge haha, we are actually looking for things to put in it because it's so empty. Here's some pics...

The lofts we built ourselves and really open up the room. The futon we picked up for cheap on craigslist. We're working on getting a few more chairs and some kind of table to put in front of the futon. The other door you see in the pics is the door to our bathroom, we share it with the room next to us. It's definitely nice not to have to leave the room to shower or use the bathroom.

Reminds me a lot of the military dorms I lived in back in 1990. Yes I'm that old.

We did the same thing with out beds to give more room.

The guys we shared the bathroom with for awhile was NASTY though.

Good luck and study hard.

It's so nice to be out in an apartment this year. I get my own room/bathroom. And it's $300 cheaper every month here.

I honestly enjoy living in the dorm so far. It's really the whole social aspect that makes it worth it, with 43,000 people on campus here it's nice to be able to make a lot of new friends here and then branch out even further to other people on campus. For this year at least I'm glad to live in the dorms.

Enjoy it while you still can. You'll get tired of sharing that bathroom with the other two swingin... in the other room let alone the room mate you have now.

Don't party too hard cause you need to get through school succesfully.

30k+ here at University of Maryland. This is going to be my 4th year. Those rooms are big compared to the ones I lived in. They were originally singles converted to doubles.

Good luck on your classes. Today was our second day.

Yep 43,000 undergrad and grad students, it seems like a lot but the campus is pretty well spread out so you don't really notice how many people are really here.

As for our room, the reason it's so big is because we're technically in "private" housing but it's certified by the university. Most people hear private housing and automatically think expensive rooms but in reality our room and board costs less than university housing by about $400 and we get a bigger room for picking a triple so it all works out.

Anyways, good luck to everyone at school this year. As much as I'm enjoying this year I can't wait for it to be over so I can start taking some real Engineering courses!!

BS, it's the gen ed crap that isn't fun. some engineering classes suck but for the most part they are lots of fun. if they aren't you might want to change majors.

I know they're not going to be a walk in the park but I really can't wait to start applying what I've learned the past few years in math and physics to things that interest me.

For example, my Calculus course is a section for engineers only and instead of just learning the material we actually learn how to apply it in certain engineering situations, and it's really made math a lot more interesting for me at least.
