I've been thinking (I know I do that a lot...but you guys are the only ones I get to talk cars with)...for much less than the cost of a C5 Vette, I could get myself a classic older Trans Am...I was surfing on eBay motors and there were quite a few nice examples of 2nd & 3rd gen cars for $10k and less...even a couple of those awesome 89 model 20th anniversary model turbo T/As (with the GNX engine)...I really love the look of the 79-81 models (like the one I used to own)...and I really like the look of the 80-81 Turbo T/A (but what a lousy engine)...but just for the sake of fantasy, what if you took an 80 Turbo T/A and chucked the 301 for an L67?...I mean the L67 can be made to be just as potent as the GNX engine...you could use a 3800 block from a 4th gen F-body and go from there...no that would be a unique ride!

Sikorsky makes a awesome turbine engine that we use in our helos...1100 hp. Im sure with a few mods...it would fit right in. Problem remaining would be , how do you stop from melting the fronts off the cars behind you... cheers

It does my heart good to know that I can amuse so many folks by giving them the chance to dis on my dreams thumbsup ...Jay Leno already snapped up the turbine idea for that insane motorcycle of his (it belongs in a parking spot right next to the Dodge Tomahawk)...just remember, every great car ever built started as someones dream or idea...so whats your fantasy ride?

I have far too many to list out.

If I had to pick one dream car it would be a 427 powered AC Cobra.

Oh, T-bat, you make me wish I was still in Waco. There's a beautiful old T/A in the Pontiac dealership's show room. Totally restored, white with a dark blue racing stripe.

In fact, I think in one of the pictures I posted in another thread, you can see it in the background. Lemme see if I can dig it up.

Edit!!
Found it, but it's a blue 'Bird logo, not a stripe. I forgot. laugh

I guess GM felt the same way...I understand that Pontiac pestered the parent corp for years trying to get the Trans Am elevated to a 2 seat sports car...in other words a Vette sister ship (I guess Caddy is the only one that gets that privledge)...GM put that request to bed when they scuttled the F-body (then again Mr Lutz wanted no part of it either) but I did always wonder what it would have looked like if they had moved on that idea.

You've seriously outdone yourself this time, T-bat.

That is by far one of the sexiest cars I've ever seen. Saleen and McLaren have nothing on that.

I think they're just proud to learn enough from me to be able to show off around other people and go, "That's a Grand Prix GXP, the first V8 in about thirty years!"

There's just something about cars, I don't know what it is. laugh

I have this discussion with my wife ever so often...she has an art degree with the emphasis on photography. She custom frames art as her job. She also quilts, draws and does scrapbooking (kinda goes with the photography)...but with all her talent and background she cant see cars as an art form. She shoots pictures of old falling down buildings because she love architecture and texture in pictures...but yet she cant go to the rod and custom show with me and take notice of the art and craftsmanship it takes to build a hot rod or a street machine. I often ask her how many times could she get into one of her quilts and take it for a spin? I think cars work on our emotions because theyre not static art. They not only look hot but the sound and feel that way as well. They move us and respond to our commands, and performance cars do that with verve. I believe it is this symbiotic relationship between us and the machine that makes a performance car such a full sensory experience...and like so many other good things in life, once we get a taste, we savor every chance to experience that feeling again (hows that for a little paperback psychology?)

Why would you mess with replacing with a v6? The popular engine replacement for late 2nd gens are getting back to Pontiac big block power with an early '70's 455 to replace tired 301's, 305's, and Olds 403's.

I have to ditto that, T-bat, but by a twist of irony, I rather like photography, too. lol There's something about being able to capture a moment, and something else about being able to run over it in style. laugh And really, if you want to get technical, some of the members of this board have a little bit of photographer in them, even if it does only concern their car. Some of you guys have some really awesome pictures that probably required a bit of effort on your part. (Austin. lol )

So, this

equals

this

I love photography, simply because it has a different meaning to everyone, and reaches every person in the world. laugh And yes I did take both those pictures and didn't steal them from anyone. :x The car however .. > laugh

In answer to WS6...I would want to replace the 301turbo in an 80-81 T/A with the GN engine cuz its about the baddest turbo engine out there...if the car was not a turbo model then a Pontiac motor would be nice...the only issue I have with that is even though I'd like to have such a ride as a playtoy, I would occasionally want to take it on trips to the beach and such...a 455 gets brutal gas mileage on a good day, plus I think I just like the novelty of having an engine under the hood that isnt run of the mill...even an L67 under there would be neat and more potent than the 301 n/a engine would ever be...in all honesty, if Gm had offered the GTP with T-roof, targa or a droptop, I would happily grab one of those in a heartbeat.
