1.)My laptop has been popping up with a "toggle keys"

box at startup. I do NOT want the toggle keys. everytime (recently) when it starts up, that box pops up and the settings are all "off" but it still pops up.

so normally when I start writing something the "num lock" is on, and I end up with some numbers instead of letters. so I have to turn that off every time after a restart.

how can I make this stop happening!
Lap top is running windows XP with sp2.

2.)my laptop touch pad doesn't seem to have settings, I want to change the setting so the touch pad does not open windows or select things, I want to have to manually select something by pushing the key by the touch pad (sorry don't know the term for those 2 keys, lol).

would I have to download drivers or something? I mean the keyboard works, I just can't change the settings.

it is kind of a frankenstein laptop but it is working good otherwise.

sounds like something is goofed up in the software for the touch pad.

usually the manufac has a tool installed to let you do more with the touch pad settings. may want to check out the manufacs site for this kind of software. what brand is it?

as for the toggle keys,

if its an application starting on boot

go to start > run
type "msconfig" press enter
go to the startup tab and uncheck them all

post a screen shot of the box that come up. if that does not help.

thanks
thomas

The keyboard shows up as a standard 101/102 key ps2.

and the mouse shows up as standard, like a normal PC mouse.

so that would explain why I have no touch pad options. lol

it is an ARMNOTE 340s8 laptop if that helps at all

well it wouldn't do it the last 3 times I turned it on, but I will post a pic up of it next time it happens.

I bought it for $120 (good deal?) and stuck $20 into a usb 2.0 card, since the laptop only had the standard slow usb. (needed it to run the tuner stuff for my car)

I can play dvd's on it, and it has a legit copy of windows, so I can go online and get updates etc. (never know when you buy used)

here are few more pics of the computer.

well for 120 bucks you cannot complain. looks like a decent machine for the money laugh

ok here is another option.

download and install Aida32 @ http://files6.majorgeeks.com/files/8f0c515e934bbf18ceaff7e9782be37e/systeminfo/aida32pe_393.zip

run it and find the touchpad. you should get a model number or some identifying info from it.

go to the manufacs site of the touchpad and see if they have software for it.

that is a cool program.

I ran it and it just showed up as the same thing "ps2 mouse"

and PS2 keyboard"

no other info was given.

is there a way to tell who manufactured the computer? all it says on the cover is "notebook"

well after some searching online, I came up with the maker of the laptop,.

FOSA model N340S8

I found a store that carries used parts so I know its the right model, the keyboard was identical, and had the same part number on it even. laugh laugh

daffyduc ,

so do you know of any good sites to get the drivers off of? It is not exactly a dell or some super popular computer so that won;t make it easy.

but it would be cool if I could turn the volume up and down via the keyboard (not currently possible), since it has the speaker up and down icons on it.

also not sure about the touchpad driver.

I really appreciate the help!

Well I found the right touchpad driver (synaptics)

so that annoyance is taken care of! (can't stand the touch pad "tap" to click feature lol.

now I just need to figure out the keyboard driver and I will be set!

ok well I cannot help you with the driver but I will tell you what I can do for you.

give me the key combination you would like to make the volume go up and down.

Im thinking windows key up arrow/down arrow or windows key page up/page down

I can hook you up.

laugh

the keys on the keyboard for the volume are F5 and F6. but I would take anything at this point vs clicking on the speaker icon.... lol

I don;t care about anything else functioning how it is "supposed" to. I was able to get my touchpad working properly, that was my biggest complaint!

now If i have volume keys, I won't worry about anything else!

and I searched for quite a while and got NOTHING as far as the drivers for the keyboard.

I emailed that computer parts place and they said it doesn't need drivers, windows will automatically find it. so not sure if there is any truth to that, but as of now it just shows up as the generic ps2 keyboard.
