Holding the key fob higher puts it more in line with the receiver behind the dash. I've also noticed that if you're behind the car, it works better at shoulder height rather than from the hip. The operating range of the transmitter is between 3 and 29 feet. You may need to stand closer to the car, during rainy and snowy weather. I've never tried testing the range as you have, Rick.
