Well 149,000 miles is all I got out of my trans. Never raced no burn outs and its done.

Now the question is do I replace it or sell the car?

There is so much corrosion underneath I don't know if I want to spend 2 grand on a new trans. Plus the seats are worn out door panels are coming apart, drivers window regulator is iffy, the door seals are bandaided the spoiler has no clear coat (original started pealing replaced with one from the junk yard).

I could get a used one and milk it as long as I can but I don't know if it'll be worth it?

What to do what to do

Ps the valve covers leak and it needs a new coupler and bbv.

Sounds like it's time to decide if you want to put some money in it and keep going or just part ways. You could probably find a low mileage transmission to put in it, do a couple other odds and ends, and have a pretty decent car again for less than 2 grand for the brand new transmission.

I don't know how worn out the seats are, but perhaps some seat covers could help that problem? Door panels some new clips and fabric glue could fix that issue on the cheap. New door seals aren't too terrible last time I checked prices, so that could be doable. Repaint the spoiler shouldn't be more than couple hundred bucks to have professionally done. So if you get a lower miles transmission for ~500 bucks, replace window regulator ~80 bucks, door panels ~50 bucks, some door seals ~200 bucks, spoiler ~200 bucks, seats/door ~100 bucks or so. Alittle over a thousand bucks overall...depends on if its worth it to you to keep it around. I know if it was 96, I'd go ahead and do the repairs and keep it around.

Depends on if you feel like another 3-5 years on a new car payment, or hold on to what you got and fix her as you go.....

Its an extra car. Still have the silverado and optima and bike.

Guess I have to decide if I want to make this a project or find a rwd project.

Tough decisions.
Mine is at 119,000 with
in the past many WOTs.
Tranny is slipping between 1-2.
Never had a car payment on it.
But the time, money, and the joy of the car
wants it to stay around when I shop around for
another vehicle.
Since you weren't to heavily in to modding it,
I would say part ways, since second vehicle.
Maybe you could part ways with a GP lover who
will take the next steps to bring it to full order.

Can I maintain a rolling chassis if I pull the motor and trans?

I just may put some effort into it. Put the motor on a stand fix all the issues polish the SC etc have it down for a little while. But ill need to be able to roll it /n and out of the garage since I don't have room for the car and spqce needed to work comfortably.

You can always buy those car dolly things you sit the car tires on too. Allows you to roll the vehicle and direction. The surface needs to be smooth though.

Herc, I feel you and I have the same issues wondering about my car. She is getting old, she still works, but there is a LOT of rust. It's only a matter of time... cut my losses now and live with the Mustang or keep her and try fixing it or let her rust away. frown

Garage floor is like glass so those dollies would work for moving it to the side.

Well I'm going to keep the car. I'm going to pull the whole drive train fix all the leaks on the motor and do some other things to it

I'm going to look around for a "low" mileage used trans for now. If I can squeeze a couple more years out of this car I'll be happy.

Sorry to hear about your tranny!! When ours went out at 210k or so, my dad wanted to get rid of it or sell it but what is a car worth to somebody that can't drive it and we had just put new quick-struts on it.

We ended up getting one from Morad's though that had 92k on it I think for about $650 after shipping I think. I don't think the tranny is perfect because it just doesn't shift like a new one would but it works. The car is no new car, doesn't get the mileage it used to and still uses some oil after fixing the leaks doing the tranny but it was just hard to let it go.

I think you'll be making the right choice though if you keep do what you plan to do with it!
