There are many options for you..... Here are some examples of the differsnt levels.

Good:
The $400 upgrade usually consists of OEM equivelant 12" rotors and brackets. You can use your stock calipers. The Monte Carlos and I believe Impalas came with 12" brakes so the swap is pretty simple.

Better:
You can do an "F-body" upgrade that usually consists of F-Body(Camaro/Trans Am) components. Including 2 piston aluminum calipers, F-body brackets and 12" rotors.

Best:
The Baer Brakes upgrade is a complete aftermarket upgrade. 2 piston aluminum calipers, brackets and 12" rotors.

The Monte/Impala swap is only for the fronts correct? I'm assuming they have the same or equivalent rear brakes as GP's.

Correct.

The F-body upgrade is also front only.

I think you can get the Baer for the front and rear except for the rotors.... Most applications will call for rotors extra.

I'm on a stock setup right now, say I did the Monte/Impala swap for the front but with D/S rotors, would I see an improvement by doing D/S rotors in back too? Or should I just save my money and stick with the stock setup? My rear rotors are fairly new and aren't showing much wear but my fronts are.

The F-body upgrade may require a bit of backyard machining pending on where you buy the components.... From what I understand the bracket bolt holes need to be reamed a bit.
If you buy from a aftermarket vendor you will want to inquire about that. If you buy OEM you will definately have to manipulate the brackets to make them work.

I think I'm going to pay for this, but here goes.

IMO: D/S rotors don't really "improve" breaking.

The point of drilling and slotting is to dissipate heat keeping the brakes cooler. It doesn't decrease your braking distance at all unless you're road racing and the brakes don't get a chance to cool down.... Then you're dealing with brake fade and boiling the brake fluid. Keep in mind that when the rotors are drilled and or slotted you are losing surface to surface contact between the rotor and the pad. So with a D/S rotor, while keeping the brakes cooler during long abusive uses you are reducing your stopping ability for those times when the brakes aren't being abused.... There's a line there... Which side would you like to be on?

I bought D/S rotors for my car, but I felt going into it that it was only for asthetics, they really add to the looks of the car, especially with an open spoke rim.

Powerslot is a great product, Hawk is also know to make a superior pad.

You won't need new calipers, but if you go with the 12" front upgrade you will need accomodating brackets(as noted in the store).

Just to make sure you are clear..... Calipers are one component.. Brackets are what the Calipers mount to. So, if you go with the Powerslot 12" brakes your stock calipers will work but you will need different brackets. If you buy the 11" (stock size) powerslot rotor you can use your existing caliper/bracket assembly but gains will not be noticable(IMO).

Edit: PS. The rear caliper/bracket assembly remains the same. There is one vendor offering a rear rotor upgrade that would require new components, but the price is a bit steep at this point in time.

Completely agree with crimpton on the D/S, its an aesthetic thing mostly. If all you're looking for is braking distance, 12" solid rotors will do you better.

Best bang for the buck braking improvement would be stainless braided brake lines.

Why do people always forget about those?
