Yep let it breath better. Hey don't the 3100s and 3400s share exhaust components? If so S&S has headers for the 3400.

I dont know if the 3400 has the same exhaust bolt pattern...check out www.60degreeV6.com they can give you the low down on any internal or swap mods for the 3100...the engine does have potential to be a screamer.

Thanks, I will check that stuff out. Does anyone know if theres a good turbo or supercharger for this engine? If not how hard is a 3800 engine swap?

3800 swap is pretty straight forward. Only thing is you need a new tranny, pcm and a few other sundrie items as well. On my site there is a link for L67 swap. That page should give you insite on all the particulars.

L67 swap, from what I've read, requires:
-3800 engine
-4t65 tranny (HD version recommended, comes in GTPs)
-engine harness
-GT/GTP PCM (depending on engine)
-3800 fuse box
-New left or right side axle (can't remember). The 3100 tranny uses a longer one that must be replaced to use the 3800 tranny.

If you can find a junkyard GT/GTP, you can scavenge all the parts you need.

Further mods to your 3100 is a cam regrind, port & polish, and a larger throttle body if current mods warrent it. rsmracing.com has a turbo kit, but it's not cheap @ $3900.

What year is your SE? If it's pre-2000 you can get the heads and intake from a 2000 or later 3100. Bone stock they give 15 more horses and about 10 more lb/ft. However, get a little work done on them and you could easily add around 30 ponies. I had a reground cam and roller rocker arms in my 3100 and they were beautiful (at least the cam was, don't think I'd really notice the rockers by themselves since they were stock ratio). The headers for the 3400 should attach to your engine just fine but I don't know about clearance in the engine bay since they are made for the Grand Am/Alero body. My 3100 was smoother than my GTP is (since the 3.1 family is a 60 degree V6) and I still am a supporter of these engines.

My car is a 2001. I went to the rsmracing page and they have stuff for a 3100 engine and a 3.1 liter engine. What is the difference and which one does my car have? Also would my engine and trans be able to safely handle the supercharger they sell? Thanks for all the tips so far.

I believe the 3100 series is a 3.1L engine. Just like the 3800 series is a 3.8L

Yeppers. Your correct. 3100 is how gm designates thiers from other manufacturers of 3.1L engines

WYTHE, the 3.1l is a more primitive version of our 3100 that was used in previous generations of Grand Prixs. The 3100 brought more horsepower and other refinements to tweak more power out of the engine. The latest GenIII 3100s (mine) that started in '00 produced 15 more horsepower and 10 more torque through a new intake manifold and heads (I believe) for a total of 175/195. Use the parts specified for the 3100.

As to the tranny, I stumbled across some neat information while looking up info on whether the 4t60e could handle 250hp... Turns out, 2000+ SEs with the 3100 had 4t65e trannies like the GTs (mine did, I just checked (M15)). To be sure, go to your car, pop the trunk and look at vehicles codes sticker (right side, bunch of 3-letter codes). Look for MX0 and see what comes after it, if it is: M15, MN3, MN7, MD7, or M76 you have a 4t65e which should handle the extra power. It can also be beefed up or adapted to a 3800 engine swap pretty easily if you still want to consider that route. Glad you asked that question, for both our benefits. smile
