1998 Grand Prix 3100 SE with 106K miles. For several weeks now, every now and then when coming to a easy stop, as I'm just about stopped, there'll be a "grumble" from under the hood and the brake peddle will vibrate. A few times this has also resulted in a ABS light on the dash which was turned off by turning off the engine then restarting.
I've had this happen on rare occasion before, but ever since I had the tires rotated and balanced a couple weeks ago, it's been doing it about 5% of my easy stops.
About half a year ago I replaced the front brake pads, but chose to leave the back ones alone bacause more than half the pad material was still left on the back brakes. I didn't turn the rotors at that time because the car was SO smooth in its stopping. It still is for that matter, except for this ABS related thing.
Question: Anyone have any insight into what this ABS related thing is?
Regards, Gary in Sandy Eggo

Possible hub bearing going bad, maybe?

If you have a grumble under the hood and the pedal vibrates, it sounds to me like the ABS is kicking in.
Would a hub bearing cause the ABS to trigger?

What I DO know and failed to include before is that ever since the tire rotation, I'm getting a very mild "runt-runt-runt-runt" sound from one of the tires up front. It's the sound that can indicate many things: wheel bearing, or blister on tire, or flat spot on tire. Wheel bearing - hmmmmmmmm. Keep the ideas coming. Regards, Gary in Sandy Eggo

Hello,
Question. If it's a hub sensor, and it's causing the ABS to kick in......Even if it wasn't throwing a code, wouldn't the "low trac" light illuminate?
Later now, Clint
