i plan to run my gp for the first time on a quarter mile track on the 1st of july. i'm currious what other gp's are making for times. i've heard there are sevaral gp's that go to this track and most of them make it in the 15s and 16s. i truly hope to do better than that. i've seen honda preludes do 15.6. not to good for me. thx.

A stock GTP should run 14.9 and up, depending on the driver. You some mods but not some big power adders, so don't expect times better than that. Plus if it's your first time, it will be slower. Dragging is something that is learned.

Don't forget weather conditions and how hot your car is running! The first time I went to a track, it was hell-hot and humid, and I had to wait in a line for an hour, with some idling in between, so the engine was above 210 before I got on the track. The second time I got there earlier, was pretty much the same weather, but no idling, so I shaved about .4-.5 seconds off my time.

Also, I removed all the unneeded weight, like spare tire, all that stuff in the trunk, spare change, whatever. Was a good time to use to clean it out. laugh I haven't been back since getting some junk worked on. Maybe this weekend.

Good luck.

Hello,

Billings Montana is up there a ways in elevation.
Which track are you going to?
There are corrections calculators for the elevation factor when you are running way above sea level.
At 3100 feet, you will be almost a full second slower than you would see at or close to sea level.
With that being said, best you will see is mid to high 15's......
First time at the track, I'm guessing high 15's, low 16's.
If you prove me wrong, more power to you..... Just keep in mind that you will not see times comparable to the average on the board.

Later now,
Clint

A stock GTP will run anywhere between a 14.2 (factory freak) to 15.2 depending on track conditions (weather, 60', elevation, how well the track is prepped, etc) Don't forget to air your front tires down to about 26 psi, and put the rears to about 45, assuming you're on street tires. AVOID THE WATER BOX, drive around it. Push the car in the staging lanes to let it cool while you wait in line. The main thing that will help your ET's is lower your 60' times. Don't torque brake past 2k RPM's, I spin a lot past that point in my GT, so you'll likely spin horribly in your GTP if you do. And get rid of the dead weight as mentioned before. A fresh tune-up wouldn't hurt, either. Just throwing out some tips smile

Leave traction control on. It helps also along with removing all the excess weight remove the drivers side headlamp housing. Helps with more "cold" air.

Man, I pull the fuse....
Just my preference, I like to know that I'm controlling the launch.
It did seem to help the wife(tire smoker) when I forgot to pull it one night. Well, it helped with tire spin, I don't know if it helped her ET's. I didn't drive that night, so I don't know what the car was capable of..... Usually she's 2-3 tenths behind me on the ET's..... Which brings up a good point..... The Driver can make a huge difference. Learn how to drive your car!!!! You can easily drop 3 tenths off your ET by learning how to drive.

thanks guys, people are telling me that most of the gp's up here are doing 15s and 16s. i've GOT to better than that...... oh, and how do you properly torque brake our cars? ive heard people talk about it, but they have ended up with jacked up cars after a few times.

hold the brake rev the motor to about 2000 rpm. Don't spin the tires lay rubber or any of that sort cause that's how our trannys let go most often.

Yes...... She gets pissy when she doesn't get to race the car. She also gets pissy trying to figure out why she can't drive it as fast as me..... It's a wash either way.... wink
I think we've got about 300 time slips with the car over the last 5 years.

Later now,
Clint
