I have the stock bose speakers in my GT. I have a black box in my trunk, it is mounted underneath the speakers and I can't see where the wires go. I'm not sure if it is stock or not, but a friend of mine told me it is an amp for the speakers. Is that what it is? And if so, how easy is it to replace it. I have a 200 watt Rockford amp from my old car that I want to do something with. Thanks

I'm not an expert on the stock stereo systems in the GP's but i do believe that's where the stock amp IS located, its either there or in the dash behind the glove box .. if i'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I don't know a whole lot about it either, once he said he thought it was the amp it made sense that it would be there. Do you know if it would be possible to change it out with a different one from back there or would I have to do it from the back of the actual stereo?

Yeah, the bose are good, but ive got this amp sitting at my house that I paid 300 bucks for less than a year ago and I want to get some use out of it, I had it in my old car for about 2 months before the transmission crapped out and it made a huge improvement in sound.

To be honest i'm sure you're still experiencing better than average sound w/ the bose system in there, you COULD always sell that amp for less locally or on eBay but thats completely up to you.

The bose is way better than average, my brother used to have an 02 SE without the bose and they don't even compare in sound quality. I've tried selling it around here, but can't really find anyone that wants to buy it, I took it to a pawn shop and they said they would give me 30 bucks for it but i didnt really want to let it go for 1/10th of what i got it for. I had it on eBay but I only got 2 bids on it and they didnt even break 50, so I decided to keep it and put it in my car

Keep the stock Amp. dont mess the nice bose system up, that stock bose amp probly costs more than your aftermarket.

the bose system is horrible compared to even a mediocre aftermarket component speaker set.

Unfortunately you wont get much of an improvement by swapping the amp unless you also get new coaxial 6x9s and ditch the 4" midranges.

The signal leads and turn on lead are easy to get to from the rear amp but they will be bass only and you will have to get a signal from the headunit itself if you want full range sound.

the best solution which I have done in my own grand prix and two others is to leave the 4" midrange speakers and remove the 6x9s entirely since they put out only bass. instead get a small 10" subwoofer and use the signal leads from the 6x9s to drive an aftermarket amp which powers the sub.

it makes a world of difference.
