Grinding and lack of power have nothing to do with belt slippage.
You may have a belt slipping, but, it sounds like you have other issues.
If a belt is slipping, it usually has a high pitch whistle, or squeal, pending on how bad it's slipping, how bad the sound is.
You may have tranny issues if you hear those noises. If you're having to go 1/4 throttle just to get through an intersection, I'd have the tranny checked.
Check your dipstick. If the fluid is low, top it off, and see if that cures the problem..... If the fluid is brown, or black, you need to stop driving it, and have it serviced.
