i have a 2000 gt, is their any advantage to driving in 3rd or second? i know your not supposed to leave it in second and drive over 55, and if it is in 3rd or 2nd u get crap gas mileage. and can you use it as almsot like a tiptronic or will that really screw up the transaxel? thanks

well it does cause pre-mature wear but its not necessarily 'bad', it will just wear things more quickly because of the added stress. And yes, lower gears rev higher and therefore use more fuel. its not recommended but your not going to drop ur tranny doing it unless you are going like 80 and drop it to second...obviously not good.

Driving in 3 only locks out the overdrive. Driving in 3 on surface streets will actually save your tranny. Keeping it out of OD will keep it from shifting in and out and save tranny wear. You can shift like the tiptronic but it won't behave the same. The PCM will not let the tranny do anything that will damage it.

I drive in 3 all the time when I'm in town. As stated, it keeps it from shifting in and out of 4th at low city speeds around 45mph.
