Ok,I have a '98 GTP.My transmission works perfectly from a stop to whatever speed up through the gears from a standstill. When
I punch the gas to go around somebody,it seems like it takes longer
than it should for the transmission to downshift to the lower
gears.Like it will slip out of gear ans wait a half a second or a
second before it slips into the lower gear.Meanwhile the engine is
spooling up.What do you guys think?
Also, what do you guys thik about flushing the transmission?
All help is appreciated.

How many miles and do you pound on it a lot? because you could have a thrust washer problem in the gear set for the imput drive, or you could have a valve body problem were they are sticking.

Do the simple and easy stuff first. Change your transmission fluid and drive it for 50-100 miles to "wash" the internals. See if you notice any improvement in your situation. Then change the fluid one more time. If there is no improvement, or the improvement is minimal, you have a mechanical problem that'll require professional service. Others should be able to advise you on what the possible mechanical causes would be.

Service your trans. as said above at least then you can eliminate dirty fluid as a cause ,try that and get back to us .
