I hope to actually buy new coils soon. While everyone praises MSD coils I happened to come across Summit Racing's coils. Their specs are pretty damn close to MSD. Would it be better to stay with MSD or save about $10 a coil with Summit?

Unless you want the bling just get OEMs. MSD, Accel, Summit will not up your ignition performance. Ignition is something GM did do good with.

I've got MSD's, no complaints about them. I'd go with the msd's.

Agree with Herc.

Heard many horror stories with people using aftermarket coils i.e., cracking, constantly replacing them, lack of performance.

Highly recommend OEM coils. Reliable and last a long time.

OEM coils are best. GM didn't go cheap with the coils. To each his own....

MSD has long been a recognized name for performance ignition systems...I dont doubt that the OEM coils are good units but to me ignition has to be a complete system to get full advantage...coils without good wires and plugs probably wont make much difference...and there is as much debate over plugs as there is coils. My $.02 is plugs and wires, then coils.

I already had the plugs and wires changed out, so I'm just hovering over which coil next.

so good that in the development stage/testing the OEM coils killed one of the engineers that were developing these wicked ignitors...

Where's Adam S. to tell you that your car will blow up with aftermarket parts on it?

Are you serious about an engineer being killed? ............ Not to sound ghoulish, but is that actually documented somewhere? That would be interesting to show that fact to the rice-burner-loving coworkers that say american cars are crap (I'm always catching it for loving my car so much). Heck whenever my alarm's transmitter goes off I'm like a flash out into my work's parking lot (but it's usually a strong gust or someone just tapping my front plate).

You know you can lower the sensitivity of the alarm smile

personally I dont like oem coils because they have a problem with corrosion after about 20k on almost every model of gm that I have ran into. But on the other hand I have seen coils that have lasted over 150k, so it's up to you on what you should go with. Just use dilelectric grease on the terminals to help make them last a little longer.

Yeah I know I can adjust the sensitivity, but the store I work at has been prone to break-ins since day one. I just don't want to risk someone messing with my baby!

I have 75k miles on my original OEM coils. No corrosion.

86k on mine. I gave them a good cleaning with some fine grit sandpaper when I changed my plugs and wires. I saw very little if any corrosion, I just wanted to get them nice and clean while I had the chance.
