sup yall! i have a question about quality pads and rotors. A couple of weeks ago i started hearing noises when i brake in the front( sound likes grinding noise). So i took to NTB (National Tire and Battery) and was told my pads are good but the quality of my pads and rotors sucked mad . So i tell him where i got them from (Auto Zone) and of course their talking down about Auto Zone. He tells me that my rotors been cut and i havent had them cutt they were brought in Nov 07. So to make a long story short they wanted me to get front pads and rotors replaced. The total brake job cost $600 dollars front and back.

So my questions is where can i get the quality pads and rotors for a chaper price? cheers

This Spring, i'm thinking about going with the R1 brake pads/rotors. Don't know if the pads are good quality, but some people on here say the rotors are decent quality. I hear Hawk pads are a good buy. Here's the link to the R1 ebay store:

I know that rotors are only about $30 each and a full set of pads coust about $40-50 at any auto zone or advance.

$600 is crazy

Here's the package deal with rotors and brakes:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PONTIAC-G...8708QQtcZphot o

You figure, $230 + shipping, if you're cappable of doing the brakes yourself (free labor), you'll save little over $300! hammer Is that a cheaper price for ya?!?! wink

Well Guys if you want quality you have to pay for it, you want to pay cheap...well you get cheap.
I am a mechanic and I get great parts cheap... well any how I just spent $ 600 on Pads and Rotors front and rear. Now I got ceramic pads and highest quality rotors that were made here in North America! no china crap!
You spend low money on your brakes and the first application will be fine maybe even the second but by then they will be soo hot you will start to have brake fade. And also if you have nice wheels and you put cheap parts on you will be cleaning them alot more!! Just my thoughts so that $600 brake job is not so bad.

The Autozone rotors say made in China right on them. I went and looked at them when I started my 12" rotor swap. The $26 and $36 ones were exactly teh same, except in a different box, and had a 1 or 2 yr warranty. If you want good parts, go to NAPA or a real parts store, you know the ones you see delivering to dealerships and repair shops. You want a name like Bendix, Brembo, powerdisc or OEM. You definitely get what you pay for in brakes. BTW, how did you break in your brakes?

I usually stick with Wagner brand stuff from OReilly's... Never had an issue. The Thermo-Quiets are good pads at about $50-60 for a front set, but they dust a bit. Quality front rotors from them are about $60 each for the fronts.

My brother just did his front pads on his caprice and found out that Wagner is getting into the Ceramics for just a little more than their carbon metallics. He says they're working real well for that heavy car of his.

I work at AutoZone. We deliver to repair shops and dealerships. Duralast brake pads are made by Morse, our rotors are made by Brembo (I even have a couple old ones on the shelf still in the original Brembo box!) Of all the brake parts out there, usually only a handful of companies actually make them, they're just relabeled. Judge the part itself and not the brand name it carries or store it came from. Have fun overpaying at a 'real' parts store. smile

Sorry man, I won't put China steel parts on my cars, too many inpurities in it. That is why they come slathered in oil. The Bendix rotors I saw at my local "real" parts store were $81, were lightly coated in oil and stamped made in USA.
Don't get me wrong, I shop at Autozone for some parts, but not suspension or brakes. I opt for Moog, Bendix or OEM. I have been repairing cars for almost 30 years and I learned a long time ago, you get what you pay for.
