Can Anyone Tell Me Anything About Power Loss When Trying To Punch The Gas Pedal? I Cant Think Of What It Could Be. Other Than That The Car Runs Great. I Love My GTP.

First thing that comes to my mind is a faulty spark plug or spark plug wire. On my old chevy, it would exhibit similar behavior, because one of the spark plug wires fell out of the clip, and was resting on the exhaust manifold, and thus melted, and shorted to ground.

Although, I believe misfires of anykind would trigger a DTC and set the Check Engine light.

Maybe you have a dirty fuel filter.

cheers

Is there anymore information you can provide other than "power loss"? Such as... at what point during acceleration does it occur... early, right after pushing the pedal or later after you start gaining some speed? Does it happen all the time? Is there any kind of hesitation during acceleration? Does it jerk at all... if so, when and how much? When was the last time you changed the fuel filter, PCV Valve, air filter, spark plugs and wires? When was the last time you had a fuel induction cleaning done?

Misfires can definitely be a leading cause of poor performance, but other things need to be ruled out first. Oh... and you can get massive misfires without setting a DTC. The other night, after changing plugs, my car was seeing anywhere from 12 to 84 misfires on cylinder number 6 for about 30 miles. Never set a code once. I found out that the ceramic insulation sleeve on the plug cracked and was arching. I replaced the plug and the problem was fixed.

Hey thanks for the info. It has only happened to me twice since i bought it 2 months ago. the power loss happens when i take off and i am turning the steering wheel. I havn't changed anything on the car except change the fluid in the radiator. Other than that the parts on the car are pretty new. I will have to conduct a complete inspection. Thank you. Did i mention i love my GTP cheers

Hmmm... another thought... if it's happening while accelerating through a turn, I wonder if it could be related to your traction control system (TCS). What model year GTP do you have? The '97s have a different TCS than the '98-03s. Actually, the '97s didn't really have a TCS.

Good luck,
Marc

Are your tires spinning at the time?

If you are in a turn the traction control could be sensing the tires spinning at different speeds, especially if you are punching it and turning, and traction control is engaging cutting back on the throttle response.

More of a "You have low traction" light and rpm killer.

His profile says he has a '98.

We're replacing a lot of cat. converters for that exact problem. Check your dealer for warranty. In Canada, I reckon it's 7 year, 110,000km, but don't quote me.
