finally got around to cleaning my engine bay, decided to go with the method of covering nothing except the air filter, and spraying all. worked fine, i believe you just had to cover up the older cars.. so here are some b4 and afters..

Before

After

i used tire foam in the begining but found it was much easier to use wipes from armorall, they work really well and leave a shine..

good job. I really should get to work on my bay. Mine now looks pretty close to what it did a year ago (refer to my thread Engine Pride).

Armor All = Stuff for dirt to stick to. It'll get dirty twice as fast and be harder to remove. I prefer some degreaser and large, soft brush. Just spray, lightly brush the surface, and run it off with a light shower of water.

I use the same technique and get compliments regularly... Clean first and protect second, just like your tires, or interior.

Once it cools down a little more, I plan on "borrowing" a bottle of degreaser from work. I'm not sure what we use, but that stuff works really well. I plan on getting some and cleaning my engine bay. Looks like the guy before never cleaned it, so 5 years of junk will take some time. smile

I've used simple green for a number of years and it works wonders! I have it in an old windex bottle and mix it with some water (I buy the concentrate stuff), use an old toothbrush and rag and light water mist from hose... Now I need to do mine this weekend!

here's that thread. I used Simple Green degreaser, pressure washer set to low, Meguire's Hot Shot tire shine, and paper towels.

That's what I also do.
Clean with Simple Green and protect with Armor-All.

I generally do a good wipe down after letting the Armor-All sit for a little bit.

I think I had the cleanest engine bay from the TMS trip crew. laugh
