I'm starting to think this car was red before.... (Sorry I had to)

I got in the car and headed downtown to go to the festival were having and on teh way there my speakers just stopped playing music and started a very loud Buzz... So I turned them down all the way and pulled over and turne them back u pa little and I could still hear it. So I turned the car off and I could smell a burning smell, it smelt like firecrackers.... And now all my speakers are dead....

its the sticker that cursed it :p

my malibu did that to after i was pond( id kid u not) hopping...jsut was loud and annoying and then no music and a burning smell....

Do you have the 8-speaker system in your car? If so I'd check the amplifier behind the glove box otherwise it sounds like your HU just took a crap.

I don't have the 8-speaker and my HU still works... I can get noise out of a subwoofer if I plug it in but no speakers.

I take it its an aftermarket HU? Maybe the amplifier in the HU died, which would be why the pre-amp outputs are still working.

Possibly.... Wish I had a spare HU to try it on... or is there any other way to find out?

Can't think of an easy way, swapping the HU would be the best way to troubleshoot (figure out if its radio or speakers). Was the HU old? Are your speakers stock?

Speakers are stock and HU was one I got out of a buddies car because he was junking it...

And 00GPGT how much are we talking? I don't want to get it and find out my speakers are blown...

And I don't want to put too much money into this car because I want to get it sold.

i got a HU for 30 lol, you could take out your speakers and just give them a visual test, see if they are blown maybe if someone knows what the resistance on the speakers are you could test that and see if they actually are blown

The amp for the premium 8-speaker Delco system in 97-98's is behind the glovebox. The amp for the Bose system in later models is in the trunk.
