you guys with scan gauges what's the trans temp get up to under normal driving?Anybody used 3800's trans cooler? I went on a 400 trip today and the temps hung around the ECT 195-215,it also shifted slugish as well.

Can't go by that gauge cluster. Not sure on the 3100s, but mine rides around the 180s to high 180s. On the highway it creeps into the 190s, and a few WOT on the highway it gets near 197.

Theres a huge article from ZZP saying that these trannys rarely fail due to heat, they say a tranny cooler is a worthless mod

Your aeroforce should scan trans temp. Of course heat is an issue with trans, but from findings, heat hasn't been a big issue with these trannies, its hard parts failing.
ECT= engine coolant temp
Different than trans temp. may need check your tranny fluid or have it changed.

The trans fluid goes thru the radiator to help cool it. Being that your coolant temp is 195 and your fan turn on temp is 222, trans temps of 195-215 are nothing to worry about. Mine averaged 225 on my Pike's peak climb last 4th if July. The road was really busy so I was stuck in traffic averaging 25-30 in 2nd gear. From TCI transmissions website: "The ideal operating temperature for automatic transmission fluid is between 175 and 225° F. At approximately 240° F, important additives in the ATF begin to cook." http://www.tciauto.com/Products/TechInfo/trans_life_expectancy.asp

No tranny cooler. Max trip of around an hour, it doesn't really go much higher than that.
I could have sworn I remembered it peaking into the 200Fs, but my logs don't support that memory.
edit: Okay, found a long summer long with peak tranny temp at 205F, so my memory WAS correct. Ambient was around 90F.
That's a normal range w/o a trans cooler.

[/b]well heat = slippage which wears out clutch's.i can tell you 100% the car shifts differently when its at 150 vs 200. idk maybe FWD cars are different than RWD.towing about 5k lb with my trailblazerr ss or even my silverado my temps dont get over 160-170. here's a pic for thought,its a pic of my dashhawk in the ss while towing 4k lb running 80mph-note the tranny temp
