find the filter on the road side aft unibody frame.

Use a catch (I used a 44 oz Circle-K cup) for the fuel that will spill as you...

find the dual push clips on either side of the forward portion of the filter

find the push clips on either side of the aft portion of the filter

drop filter into spill catch

clip fuel lines onto new filter

prime fuel system

start vehicle

stomp the happy pedal into the sunset

another way to depressurize
1. Start car
2. Pull fuel pump fuse, car will start to sputter immediately as fuel pressure dies.
3. Shut off car.
4. Replace fuse

Or wait until morning. Most cars lose pressure overnight

Just a question, what does replacing this filter do, in terms of performance or car care?

It allows for the fuel to be properly filtered to keep contaminates from getting into the injectors and other areas it doesn't belong. A clean filter also allows the pump to work w/ minimal stress to keep the fuel pressure at the proper psi for optimum performance. The more junk clogging the filter, the worse your car will run.

I changed the filter on my 00 GT when I got it from my buddy who was the orignal owner since new. Car was running bad, and I found it had only been changed once. Yes, 4 1/2 years on a filter.

Changed it out and viola! Power came back and motor runs smooth.

In addition to what's already been mentioned, a clean fuel filter allows more volume of fuel to travel through the lines and to your throttle body which in turn gives you a little more throttle response.
When you remove the old fuel filter, blow into the intake side. Then blow into the intake side of the new fuel filter. After doing this, if it's been awhile since the filter's been changed, you'll understand why you should change your fuel filter regularly.

Anytime you buy a used car the first thing you should do is change the air and fuel filter as well as changing the oil
