Whats a 97 Gt 2dr worth? It has an overheating problem which I suspect is head gaskets, also missing front bumper and headlights. Owner says he drove it 5 miles home when it started getting hot, claims it never got over 260. There is antifreeze in the oil but he claims he only drove it 5 miles like this. No motor knock or anything abnormal sounding. Im thinking of putting head gaskets in it and driving it. He also took the front bumper and headlights off for anouther car.

Not much. I'd give him a few hundred bucks for it.

It's going to need a new motor so pay whatever you thing a car with no motor in it is worth.

Have you considered going with a GTP instead?

Youre better off looking for something else. If you're looking for something cheap and not perfect, at least go with something with the motor in order. You can still drive something with a body beat to heck, but when you've got something thats overheating with blown heads and coolant in the oil, you're just going to be buying a car that needs a new motor. I'd pass on it
BUT on the other hand.... If you can pick up a working motor for fairly cheap, and the rest of the car is in good shape (aside from the bumper/headlights you mentioned) then it COULD be worth it

I respectuflly disagree .. If you have something else to drive and have the time/money to put into it it would be a good project car if you could get it pretty cheap.. would be nice to start with the bottom end and build one up from there.. Paint the block, have the heads ported top swap all that good stuff... Beats pulling the motor later for the cam and other goodies you would most likely eventually want..

I may be mistaken but i belive i read ordonez and a few others post about the temp guage in our cars. A guy looseing his headgaskets while still in the higher part of the "normal"..

There is a guy on my local craigslist with a GTP 2 door that runs just has some tranny slip under heavy acceleration for $1200.. I would go for something like that before i would the GT with no motor..

I had a 98 GTP and got rid of it becasue I got sick of buying premium gas and putting in trannys. This would be a car to drive to work, not looking to mod it at all. I have a 00 silverado I drive the rest of the time. The guy is asking $500 for it but I think I can get him down to $350-$400.

Premium gas really isn't that much more...

Are you considering this car as a daily driver or project car. If you're looking for a DD I'd say look elsewhere. Not all GTPs have tranny issues. Tranny issues can also be attributed to the driver, not that I'm accusing you of anything, lol. Mine has 135k on it and it is still perfect, knock on wood.

I wouldn't even bother, there are plenty of other cars out there and plenty of Grand Prixs.

Its anywhere from $.10 to $.20 a gallon more, and a GTP gets about 2mpg less than a GT. Ive got it figured it costs an extra $300 to $350 to drive the 25,000 to 30,000 miles a year I drive to work.

BTW, I went and looked at the car and its total junk, alot of rust and beat up. Going to have to keep looking.

$300 is a cheap price to pay for that extra fun though lol

300 extra a year is nothing. And I went from a gt to a gtp and I get better has mileage. So gtp ftw
