Uh oh.. so, on the way home today, my car stopped shifting into 4th gear. Ok, that sucked. Then, the transmission started whining. the pitch and volume matched the engine RPMs.

When the shifter is in '3' vs D, it doesn't whine.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you lost 4th gear.

You can drive around in 3 it won't hurt anything other then you MPG.

Chances are you're in for a rebuild.

Yeah that's what I was thinking... and driving in 3rd will have to work for now... too bad i have a 25 mile highway commute.. oh well.

Lol, i lost 4th gear as well. Just keep a watch on your tranny temps if you can. I cant get mine fixed until i come up with the money for it. it sucks, but well it happens on our old cars, especially when you start modding them.

What probably caused yours to go bad just like mine is the 4th gear clutch shaft, they are very weak and over time like to sheer off. May want to check out ZZPerformance for a hardened 4th gear clutch shaft. Along with a rebuild kit if you want to do it yourself, thats what im doing.
