only rev to 4000rpm

while reving my engine in neutral and park, the engine seems to cut off power and jump as if it were redlining when it reaches 4000rpm.
-does this happen to anyone else who's car is around the same year?
-anyone know what exactly it is?

Rev limiter. It's purpose is to protech the S/C.

All stock GTPs only rev to 4K RPM in park or neutral.

Almost all later model GM's have some kind of rev limiter, depending on which engine you have. It protects the engine from free over-reving.

The GT's do it to not to protect the supercharge on those models but to protect the engine in general, however somone accidentally did this driving my old GT when was cruising about 35 slipped it in neutral and racked it then it went to 5500 rpms and then idled down, i was like you broke my car and at a stop 0mph it would only rev 2 4000 rpm. there is no need to rev our motor past like 2500 that is when it sounds the best anyways.............
