How did you remove the dome light piece? From what I can see of it, it looks like it has three tabs holding it in, but I don't want to start prying at it and end up breaking something I shouldn't have.

Is it completely necessary to take down the entire overhead console or can it be kept simple?

Well since you have the same as me, maybe not exact, but i'd recomend taking it down. Not sure as is your options but a simple 4 screw release aint that bad of a task. But take it alll dowwwwwwwwwwwwn.
