I know I've got a GTP tranny, but that's about what I'm doing at 60. At 70 I'm right at 2k RPMs.

gearing is the same on the SE as the GTP. and yes that sounds right on.

I was just tuning last night, and I remember a post about someones RPMS, so I looked and at 75 mph I was at 2,130 rpms, fluctuating 5-10 rpms.

Wrong, SE and GT have 3.29's

GTP only has 2.93's

And that number sounds about right to me

Which is better to have, a lower number or higher number for the gearing?

Depends on what you want. If you want low end or high end power. I believe, hope I am not wrong, but the higher the gearing, the better your low end is. That is why the GTPS at high end "fall on their face" people say.

yep, higher gear ratio gets you outta the hole faster, that's why people with mustangs/trans am's/etc will get 373's or whatever, is to improve their launches and acceleration

that makes it harder to launch GT's with the 3.29's compared to the GTP's 2.93's

I would say it raised your rpms up a little from stock. Your new tire is saying now that your speedo is 2.1% to slow. Changing tires in a way changes the gearing ratio slightly, overall gearing. I wouldn't be to worried about it, if you want you can have someone with a powertuner change yor revs/mile.

Tire size calculator

Unless you have a scanner, I wouldn't go by the gauge, mine looked 200-300 rpms off compared to the PT scans. According to the chart, it raised your rpms by 22, from 1,698 at 60pmh to 1,720.

235/55/17:
mph rpms
60 1,720
65 1,863
70 2,006
75 2,149
80 2,293
85 2,436

Harder to launch, maybe, since from a dig, most likely the wheels are spinning.

But when it grabs, buckle up!!
