Last night I dropped in a cool air intake system in my car and talk about adding some extra boost? Holy crap! I should have done this 3 years ago when I bought the car. But me being the way I am I was fearful of messing my car up. Well the fear was unfounded to say the least. Its the best thing I could have done. I also chromed out some of my parts on my engine and spray painted silver underneith my front and rear bumpers to make them stand out more. Now I dont have to look at the dark grey anymore and it makes it stand out. Now I am going to add some more odds and ends but tires are next in line because my old Goodyear tires are showing their age. If anyone has yet to add a cold air intake to their car I say do it because it makes a car a better car in my book. Also check out this website: www.pontiacunderground.com It gives you some lame excuses on why GM decided to phase out Pontiac after 2010 and it also lets peeps voice their disaproval of GM's dumb decision as well. But overall its a good site to check out.

What kind of CAI did you install? Does it have a box around the air filter? If so, take the box off and just run an open cone, you'll get even more HP's out of it.

I gotta say I put a HAI in on my GTP and I didn't notice any difference at all besides the sound.

Yes, but not sure how scientifically reliable it is. Somebody had done tests with both configurations. Also, I think it was Herc who did temperature tests and found that once you start moving, air intake temps for the open cone were very close to those of the CAI system's. If these things are true than I don't think that the money/time for the CAI system is worth it (at least if you're not n/a). Unless its a wizaired, then the looks are worth it ;-)

Putting your cone in a box restricts the air flow. An open cone has a lot more unrestricted air available for it's use.
On another note... If anyone is planning on getting their car dyno'd, take one run with an open cone then the second one with no air filter at all. From what I've heard, the results will surprise you.

I'm presuming no air filter netted larger gains???

You can feel it in the butt dyno.

We go through these posts about CAI's about once a month, but again you want a large filter ,short smooth tubing without radical bends ideally 3 1/2"-4" tubing,an enclosed box is not necessary and may be restrictive causing a vacuum effect,so what is left a cone filter right off the TB? while this would give the most direct flow I think a short length of tubing with a heat shield (not an enclosed box) would be a good compromize ,so either make your own or buy a K&N which works well with no restriction and a proven design ,I know the wizair has done some testing but they tested their system against other similar designs.Chico(pops)
