So i went to a Mr. Lube today and got my oil changed. They do a bunch of checks and stuff and this is what i need done!

Fuel Filter : Needed to be changed at 24,000 KMS and i have 125000 KMS on it. Gotta love it..
Cabin Air Filter , it doesn't exist. It got taken out for whatever reason.
Metal Shavings and Burnt Transmission fluid, no wonder my tranny is shifting like garbage.
I need a coolant flush which should get done when i get my UIM or whatever is leaking.
My serptentine belt has cracks every inch in places and THAT needs replacing!!

Thats so much garbage, if the previous guy would've just done a few small and not very expensive things i wouldn't be stuck with this huge list!! I also have to drive 5 1/2 - 6 hours on saturday and that should be fun with this essay of problems.

Thats my rant for the day!

You've had this car for a while haven't you? You could have easily noticed and taken care of a lot of that stuff by yourself.

You knew something was wrong with the tranny and yet you kept driving on it instead of figuring out what was wrong. You knew it was leaking coolant and now you're surprised it needs a flush and refill. The drive belt is something that every car owner can check on their own, it's not very hard to spot cracks and worn areas even with the belt still on the car. Also our cars never came with cabin air filters from the factory.

Of course on top of all this, you're taking the word of a "tech" from a quick lube. Sorry but if I'm having problems with my car I'll take it to someone who does a little more than change oil and refill washer fluid all day.

I'm really struggling to understand why you're so surprised that your car needs work. Every car needs to get maintenance done on it at some point or another. In no way can you blame the previous owner for all your troubles, you bought a used car, not a brand new one off the lot. If anything it's your fault for not getting everything checked before you bought the car. You can't assume that everyone takes care of their cars like they should, that's why used cars don't come with warranties.

Sorry but you really have no reason to be complaining at all, at least in my opinion.

Mine came with a warranty ! I know that a couple of the things could've been taken care of earlier, just i'm not made of money have to save for school and pay for the car, so some things come before others. I would've loved to dumb 2 grand into the car fixing it up and getting it to what i wanted to but that wasn't an option.

I'm going to bring it to a trusted garage in my household and get estimates and get this taken care of immediately. I haven't had the car for 10 months yet, btw.

Shaner those are all wear items, You could easily do that... But the transmission is iffy.

Be glad its only that little maintenance.

IIRC Herc is on the 125,000 mile fuel filter cheers

It's just stuff you gotta deal with when having a car..new or used..you can fix it all at once or slowly over time but it will still cost the same.

But good idea taking it to a trusted mechanic, cuz they always tell you you need every kind of filter and fluid change there is, even if you don't.

That's 117k on the original fuel filter and serp accessory serp belt.

The GPs never had a cabin filter.
Coolant flush is normal. Should be done every few years.

The tranny that's different. How did they find the shavings? Did they drop the pan?

I actually meant to ask this. Did they drop the pan, and the shavings were on the magnet, or if it was just the sludge that is normally for wear and tear.

I always tear apart the filter too, just because I'm curious. There are always tiny shavings in there, though.

Well you know what happens after the warrenty runs out most people neglet their car and just trade it in leaving the undone stuff for the new owner,a good idea when you first buy a used vehicle is start fresh and do all the maintenace and do'nt wait till you start having problems and then cry in your beer.Chico(pops)

The first thing I do when I even look at a car is check the easy maintenance items. If those have not been done, I probably won't buy it. If they don't do those items, what makes you think they did scheduled oil changes?

Once I buy a car, I change all fluids, belts, hoses, plugs, wires, fliters etc. That way I am done for a long time.

How much do oil changes cost these days? ....why don't you just do your own. It's so simple and it will save you some money!
