why is it that when you install an aftermarket radio in your car you lose the use of your steering wheel radio controls? i know there has to be a kit you can buy that lets you use your radio controls with an aftermarket unit if so let me know

I didn't install my own stereo but when I got my alpine unit from crutchfield the I also got the steering wheel control adapter with it for not much, not sure what it costs now. Glad I got it though, I like still having them it was worth the extra money for me

I'm hoping for the best..... (knock on wood) mines been almost two years I think and still going strong. The volume up button sticks a little, but I think its the button itself and not the adapter

No matter which way I turn it, it could go up and down. I've resorted to just jiggling it until I get the volume level I want. Good thing I have steering wheel controls.

PAC audio makes a few different adapters depending on which headunit manufacturer you go with. There is also a universal adapter PAC SWI-X that I use and works good. I have had it for more than two years and it works just fine.

ya there is a kit, but I wouldnt wanna mess with the nightmare of wiring between the aftermarket deck and factory wheel controls... I paid roughly 100 bucks to get it hooked up again, and it works great!! I got it done through a local car audio and video place.

Search for it on this forum using my screen name. I have photos and information on this procedure. Its been awhile so I don't have the information relavant in my mind or at my fingertips.
