first of all, debatin between headers and rockers.I'm basically stock(just cooler t-stat & plugs) and my goal is to run a 3.4 pulley(series III) which mod will allow me to drop more without knock? i'll also have a tune done after i drop in the mod's.And do the 1.9 rockers require aftermarket springs?(providing i limit my shift points) i know the rockers are good on the top end, which would be nice, and i've been told they reduce KR across the whole power band, and that my stock manifold's aren't limiting exhaust flow enough to gain a ton from headers' so i'm almost leaning in that direction but If i must get springs with the rockers i'll probly just get headers but if i can run stock springs i'm not too sure which mod is better for the $ Thanks much!

You need both. Don't try to run a 3.4 without headers. The stock mani limits air flow.

Definately get headers first. I doubt you would be able to run a 3.4 on that Gen V unless you had rockers AND headers.

Im thinking more like headers and a 3.5 with a quality on board tune.

Yeah i figured i'd probly need both to run a 3.4 but i was hopin since i have no knock at all now. And what about springs? they a must when doing rockers?(shift points below 6100)

Well just be weary of Comp 105# springs, some have good luck, other drop valves. Ive never ran 1.9's but people tend to choose 105#, 90#, LS6 or L76 springs.

Yeah i know about the comp spring issues as well as which springs to run with the rockers but my question is do I HAVE to do springs with the rockers or will my stock springs be fine?
Thanks for the info tho

ahhh. I see, well Ill leave that question to the people who have done it. AFAIK I *thought* you CAN run stock springs if shifting under 6000 RPMs. Though with a higher mileage motor you get valve float.

If you keep the revs down stock springs are fine. But since your opening up the covers and changing the rockers you might as well change the springs as well.

I agree but it all depends on cash flow. Car has almost 80k on it. Should i be worried about valve float with stock springs?

Get Ls6 #90 springs to be safe and while your in there pick of some viton valve seals and locks. Better to do it right the first time then skimp.

Dude IMHO wait and save up until you can do both.

Look shifting under 6k with 1.9 rockers is cutting your power band by a good amount of rpm's. 1.9 rockers are more top end anyways.

Below 6k you wont get valve float.

As was said before definitely grab seals and some locks are a good idea too.

Anyways why do a job twice?

well as far as the header's go i've talked to some experienced GPer's locally and i won't really gain much from em until i go below a 3.4. Denver = altitude = thin air = less air in = less air out = less restriction from stock mani's!I know it must sound crazy to some of you guys near sea level but IT IS the case.I'm just not pushin nearly as much air up here.So i'm gonna wait on the headers i think. As far as the rocker's go i would do stiffer springs but it's just gonna wear on the timing chain a whole lot more and eventually cause failure. So if i do rocker's i probly will just get new stock springs so there fresh and i don't have to worry much with the float issue. I could do a dampener but that's almost as much work as doin a cam and if i'm down there i probably would just do the F'in cam! so . . . :REPOST:rocker's or cam? lol!

and i very much appreciate the advice, however, altitude is a major variable here and it does have a considerable effect on performance mod's so i'd be wise to take advice from people who have experience in my specific environment and share the new info that i've become aware of.especially since i don't know that anyone responding to this has much experience in high altitude situations.I'm sure in your part of the country your right on.Anyway, just getting people's input, not takin any of this as god's word ya know
