well i know earlier i posted about a trans am, cause i really wanted a summer car, but now ive decided against it... to much hassle and money... so now im thinkin of something different... my siblings are turning 16 in 8 months or so, and my brother will probably end up buying my car from me which is kind of nice cause i want something newer with fewer miles... because of all the hype with top swaps and ss m90 kits and turbo kits, my trigger finger is getting very inchy but i dont want to stick money into my car now.. ive been looking at the impala ls because theyre a dime a dozen which means cheap, and reliable... if i paid for one with cash because i have the money, then got around 3 grand for my car, that means i have 3 grand for rims cause the stock ones blow, an ss m90 kit, and many other goodies... with 3 grand i could prolly get close to 300 whp, ya think? ive been putting alot of thought to it and really want to do it, but like many other things, when the time comes my dutchness kicks in and i walk away... idk i guess this was more of just a rant more than anything so sorry about that... but what do you guys think? thanks

I say go for your gut feeling! But I read your post on replacing the Hubs and you just supervised? Just wondering if that 3k is going to cover labor charges for throwing on these mods to the Impala? Don't take this harshly...

Does the Impala LS come with a 3800? The base motor in those is the 3400. Better make sure of what you're doing.

the old style ls comes with the 3800, which is what i want cause i like the looks of them better...

and i know what you mean 20gtp02 about how far the 3 grand will go because of my poor knowledge with motors... when i was getting my hubs done, the guy from my church said he would be more than willing to help me out with any modifications i do, so that saves me alot of money... my brother doesnt get his license till february, so i have a while to find a good used one, and hopefully find one with a very decent price... i also figure if i keep saving like i have been, ill have another 4 grand by february... so hopefully i can find one like i want, with a maximum of 50,000 miles and have enough money left over to make it scoot... i think having an impala pushin 300 ponies would be so sweet... oh what a sleeper that would be...

Yea the 2000-2005 came with the 3800 on the ls models and the 04 impala ss came with the GTP engine for that year only, I think, someone correct me if Im wrong.

My bro had an '01 Impala LS. That car is identical, as far as the drivetrain goes, to the GP's. It has little stuff that is nicer because its a newer design like upgraded brakes, better HU, just some little things here and there. Your right though, they are everywhere and it wouldn't be too hard to find a decent one for a good price.

I say do it, but if you want a fast route to 300HP just turbo it. The base ZZP kit is 2.5k and will get you to 300HP+ (snap) like that. Leave the stock rims and exhaust on it. It would be the ULTIMATE sleeper.

EDIT:
Here is a link to a turbo GP over on clubgp. Check it out:
