My boss has a Dodge Nitro and they received the call and take it to the dealer.

I believe the 97-03s are now beyond the recall "window" Issues could arise from age and mileage and not necassarily design flaws. Just legalities really.

Not necessarily true. My Bird has at least 4 open campaigns. At least one of those opened in 2000. That one is that the seat belt buckle plastic "shroud" has no UV stabilizer and can (read: WILL) crack and, essentially, disintegrate with time. That means that the campaign started with the car being 15 y/o, and still open at 22 y/o.

Might that be because seatbelt type concerns are taken much more seriously?
Im sure the auto companies take into consideration the frequency of the issue. Your seatbelt shroud will definetly crack, whereas not every 3800 has an o-ring caused fire. Of course, maybe they will, the ones that last 20 years...

Once a recall is issued it stays in effect for every vehicle until the recall work is completed. I doubt very highly they will issue new recalls on a 10 year old vehicle.
