It looks good but I don't see GM marketing a car to compete with the Camaro. Otherwise the Firebird would have been in the works since day one. Plus with the release of the G8ST it wouldn't be very wise.

Just goes to show what a hit GM has on it's hands with the G8 as a whole.

I don't know... It's not like it'd be a direct competitor to the Camaro. Sure, it'd be a sports car, but it's not a retro.

Personally, I'd have liked to have seen a retro GTO on the board, but they probably would've screwed it up imho. So, instead of calling something everyone would gone up in arms with like they did with the '04-06 GTO's they just create a new sports coupe with a new name. Makes sense to me if they actually do it.

The Camaro is not a retro. The only thing it has in common with the old Camaros is the hump in the body line past the doors. Everything else is new. Ford at least made the Mustang look like its old kindred.

Actually it would. Two door shortened wheel base V8 RWD. Puts it squarely in competition with the Camaro. Granted it won't be sharing body panels but it would "steal" sales from the Camaro which would in all reality kill it financially and same for Pontiac.

Enthusiast aside their just isn't enough of a market for GM to offer two similar performing coupes.

The G8ST is the "truck"

I would be more in the market for a G8 coupe than for a Camaro. Plainly put, I hate the styling of the Camaro more than the pics they have in the article of the Coupe.

To me they wouldn't necessarily be stealing sales from one or the other, they would be appealing to a range of people with different tastes in styling.

I like it but since they got that G8 ST car out, I see no point in the coupe but if they do put it in production, it will boost sales for gm, well hell the g8 sedan itself is going to be sold out.

I can see Mr Lutz pushig for this car and calling it the G8-GTO and to me it definitely has a distinct BMW flavor. I can also see where Herc is coming from though, as Pontiac will have an uphill fight to sell GM brass on getting the car due not only to the Camaro but the other vehicles they are planning off the Zeta platform.

It may turn out to be much like the deal at Chrysler. Dodge gets all the performance models and Chrysler gets the luxo rides. Even tho Pontiac is touted as the performance division, the Camaro has been a long time coming and still with good public anticipation. I dont think GM will want to dilute its market with another performance coupe. The only ray of hope I would see is if G8 production begins here is the states and frees up production line space for Holden down under.
