For me and my situation, Korea is the secnd to last place I wanna be. I hate the country. Scratch that: despise. Or whatever. Otherwise, I am tired of being under military control, and would like to see what else there is to life. Bummer I have no savings to support my family with IF I dont get hired immediately. Oh well, here we go for another 3 years.

Well, you could be over in Iraq... so I suppose it could be worse.

I'm signed up for the Navy and going in probably at the end of summer '07. I'm signing away 6 years of my life for them, but I can't complain too much because they're gonna give me enough college education (for free) to become a nuclear engineer, who starting out, makes on average $58k/yr. Can't complain too much about that.

That's true. There is one other AWESOME selling point: free medical. for sponsor AND all dependants. Dental is really inexpensive, but there are co-pays and such. If you're on shore, you may be able to take advantage of the Auto Crafts Shop. Iraq is why I said Korea's the second to last place I wanna be. Good luck in the Navy. Depending on your job, you just might be able to be stationed on LLS-1 here in New Mexico.

2.5 years ago I had a life issue. So I went to the navy, they offered me that nuclear engineering position also, based on my brilliance, they said. I scratched that.

My sister is a teacher in Seoul, South Korea and she loves it over there. I guess North Korea could be the next place that the military goes, but who knows. I hope all works out well for you though. A lot of people that used to be in the military have told me that I should join up, but I look at what they're doing after they get out and most of them have had a very hard time finding a decent job. Doesnt seem right.

So after this three years is up how many years will you have in?

Drummer Nukes lots of school lots of sea time.

I think I got the best job in the Navy. Right now as I right this I'm in a four star hotel on a beach in Spain.

Four and a half years to go till I retire.

Yep, when I ship out, I'll be in boot camp for 8 wks, then Nuclear Field A,B, and C school which will take 1.5-2 yrs. Then 4 yrs out at sea... and I can either be done with it, or reenlist.

Who knows. Herc, what do you do in the Navy?

Don't fart while you're in nuke school. I've known guys that got bumped out of nuke school for less. Be prepared the the most intense schooling you've probably seen. I'm a retired Boiler Tech, they don't exist anymore, became machinest mates in 96. Your options for sea duty are subs or carriers now. Used to have nuke cruisers, but the were decommed years ago. If you go subs, you will then be a bubblehead. Herc is an airdale puke, don't get offended Herc I say that with the utmost of respect. The only higher compliment I've had besides snipe was squid.
