At some point while have been doing work to my car the back clip that holds what I am asuming is a heat shield has broken off. I am: A. Searching for a replacement. B. Wanting to know if I take it off will it hurt anything?

I took of my bracket. Didn't hurt anything and it made it alot easier to access the rear exhaust mani and rear bank of spark plugs. I'd say go for it.

Does the sheild need to be there at all? I am talking about that big piece of plastic that says supercharged on it and 3800 series II. The only reason I can imagine it is there is to protect the hood from heat. Let me know if I am wrong.

I think it's purely cosmetic. I've had mine off for about 9 months and no issues.

It helps keep underhood noise to a comfortable level for your average joe and to spruce up the cosmetetics. Most of us have removed those long time ago.

GM calls it the "fuel rail sight shield". It serves no other use than cosmetics.

I still have mine installed. But it's just there to look pretty.
