Does anyone here watch it? It's an anime show I first caught on AdultSwim earlier this summer and now I'm addicted. Dubbed episodes air weekly on AS; they're around episode #50 atm. However, I liked it so much, I found the releases from Japan that are subbed and have watched them all the way to the current episodes (now at #141). I've also been reading the manga, which is ahead of then anime by a fair bit.

Anyway, I thought I try my hand at coloring one of the manga pages. Not bad for a first time, eh?

my son is mad crazy for Bleach...he goes to anime conventions in various costumes...he had me make him some crazy sized sword "Zangetsu" I think he said the name was. Here's a shot of him from a recent anime con with his sword (made from oak plywood)...he's the one on the right

Yes, it's Zangetsu... and ironically enough, he's dressed as Zangetsu as well. Also, in the image I colored, Ichigo (the redheaded guy) is holding another form of Zangetsu.

I still think that taz and roadrunner are the best cartoons...what happened to real cartoons???

Well, this isn't your average cartoon. This involves more dramatic situations, swearing, people trying to kill each other, and blood. It's more of an action flick that's been animated.

Anime is serious business.

It's a little bit of a shock to go into it thinking of the American version of 'cartoons'. And yes I even mean the Americanized version of Japanese cartoons because the stuff they show on TV is cut and censored so much that it often has no relation to the original context or dialogue so don't throw Pokemon at me as an example!

Or Sailor Moon, because there were lesbians in that one.

If you like Bleach, you'd like Claymore, Rook.

Same thing with Bleach. One of the Shinigamis is gay, and there are at least two lesbians: a classmate of Orihime/Ichigo and one of the Vizards.

I was actually amused how the Japanese play with sexuality when I started watching the subbed episodes.

I've heard of Claymore, but I think I'll stick with Bleach until it runs out. I'm also a FMA fan, I just wish they'd make more of them.

I think my first experience with anime was "Ghost in the Shell" which to me is an all-time classic. I also used to watch a tv series called "Star Blazers" and many years later I found a Manga with its original title "Space Cruiser Yamato"...the book was tough and gritty so I can only imagine what the uncut series must have been like.
Then we cannot forget "Ninja Scroll" of which I also consider to be a timeless classic...especially when you consider it was made before computers got into the animation game.
I think the other thing I find interesting is the difference in culture. In this country everyone wants the hero to win,get the girl and happy ever after. In Japan, if the hero doesnt die at the end they think it sucks. Ultimate sacrifice make audiences cheer.

Tbat, Kubo Tite (Bleach's creator) has an issue with killing people off. So far, afaik, only one person in the series has died and his death predates current story time.
