Hi,

What are yor opinions and experiences in CVT trannys, I've been reading about this SUV Nissan Murano and it seems to be a very reliable car but CVT got me thinking.
BTW what are your opinions on 2004-2006 Nissan Murano AWD

Regards

I rented a 2007 Altima and it had the cvt in it. I didn't like it because when you put the car in drive it took like 2-3 seconds to engage before you pull off and I didn't think that was a good sign. I also drove a 06 maxima and it had the same feeling.

A friend of mine has a Murano. I think it's an 07 and she loves it.

As for CVTs. I haven't had any experience with one.

they are pretty cool, i just dont really know of any downsides but you cant work on them lol, and they use green tranny fluid, the idea is basicly the same as whats used on snowmobles and atv's

CVTs are awesome, always in the proper power band. I rode in a friends '07 murano. It was very nice, smooth ride.

the cvt is the one of the coolest things ive driven.

My g/f's mom has an 05? or 06 Murano with the CVT and that thing gets moving pretty good.

I've seen that some people say it is a weak tranny cause the belts and expensive to repair cause it is somehow sealed, is this true? Some other say that since it doesn't shifts the engine usually is over rev. and that will cause a fail sooner than others...what about that?

Can you notice my fear on transmissions? why would it be?? kooky lol

As for engine wear from overrev etc. They are computer controlled to keep the engine in it's prime rpm. That's why it's so much more fuel efficient. People just aren't use to a motor staying at one rpm. It's not normal so it must be wrong. That's the thoughts people have.

Take a good look at the source of the negative remarks. Chances are many of the doubters are old school and don't understand the technology involved.

The CVT is very efficient. Very few heavy moving parts so no powertrain loss. The computer keeps the engine at peak torque if you go WOT so you get the best acceleration possible. When cruising, it gives you the lowest RPM it figures will keep the car moving efficiently at that speed. I'm sure if you beat on it, it won't last, but that is the same with anything.

...isn't it the acceleration that snaps your head back, and the shifting that snaps your head forwards?
