Issues:

When starting up computer the internet will connect then suddenly disconnect. This is a pain because it will connect for 5-15 seconds, then disconnect, then repeats. Updated the driver for the Atheros ethernet controller to the newest. I also tried several other ones as well that were older. Checked bios for Lan controller, disabled/enabled just to make sure. Also ran in safe mode + networking, didn't help any. I've established that it isn't the router because I can plug in ethernet to our other computer and laptop and they resume with a solid connection that works fine from the same ethernet coard/port. My network adapter on the mobo is the issue.

I'm running on wifi for now because my wireless card works but would like Ethernet back.

When it connects when running off ethernet it actually can open up internet for those few seconds and receives the normal ip address but then the adapter will become disabled.

I've tried the power settings on the device manager for this ethernet adapter and unchecked the control this devices power box and no luck:(

What I have:

Asus P5Q Mobo w/ Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Ethernet Controller (onboard ethernet lan port)

Windows 7 64 Bit

SMC 8013WG Modem + Router All in one combo meal.

My thoughts on this:

Network adapter on mobo was damaged somehow by lightning strike that hit near my house when PC was turned on or it could be some software I have installed recently that could have caused it, but identifying that would almost be impossible. Virus scans have detected nothing from nortan and I'm thinking I may go get a new network card if no one else has any ideas...

Thanks for helping:D

Only other thing I can think of is checking for a program you might have installed that could be causing conflicts or IRQ conflicts in the BIOS.

However, if you believe its actually damaged hardware, you might be fighting a lost cause. :p

I've got a USB->Ethernet adapter you could have for $5 + shipping, new in box, never been opened. It's a Linksys I believe.

Seems like easiest fix at this point is to just get an ethernet card. Zalfrin I may take that USB off of you depending on how much shipping is.

Pop into safe mode with networking if it works then its prob some random software if it doesn't then drop down a level on the driver. If it still doesn't make sure the cabling is good.

Tried safe mode + networking, it didnt work and did same thing. Tried dropping level on the driver as well, and cabling is all good. Hardware related?

Uhm how good are you with actual hands on hardware as in motherboard moding? I mean check all the soldering connections make sure they're aren't any burnt modules etc all the basics. I don't know if you have any electrical experience or not.
