ive made my own intake but how do you take the pcm out of the last section of stock airbox? and where would you put it to keep it safe?

The PCM just pulls out, and you can just let it sit there, or use some velcro if you want, Many have it just hanging there like myself.

lol, there are no problems letting it sit, it doesn't move much, with all those wires it's pretty rigid. Only reason to get a PCM tray is for aesthetics if it bother you that much. But if it did you probably wouldn't be doing a DIY intake in the first place.

I got a used airbox from a salvage yard. Hacked off the top and wire tied the PCM to it. Works great. I only use it in the winter. I see very hot air intake temps in the summer. Way over 100 degrees once the car warms ups. With my stock air box, I see 10 degrees over outside temp if I can keep it moving. When in start & stop traffic, I see 120-130.

lol. Why? Find ONE story that shows a PCM going anywhere? Some people just love spending money for no reason.

Re: cai - 08/24/09 03:44 PM

its not about it moving around its the fact that of doing the job halfased.

When somebody pops the hood on 2 GP's,one has a tray and the other has BS holding it down which one looks better?Im not saying the BS hold down doesnt work but why not make it look good.

When i did my 1st FWI i "rigged" up a tie down and it looked crappie so i bought a tray for it.

i just used some zip ties, its not going no where, i could careless about how the engine bay looks, nobodys gonna judge your car by saying "hey lemme see your engine bay, if you dont have a pcm tray your cars ugly and a pos." seriously, i just think whatever gets the job done is best, and if doesnty cost you anything, then even better.

Or just don't bother with your "BS tie down" and just set it down. I'm sure when people pop my hood they are going to look at the PCM underneath the 9" K&N, 85mm MAF and LS1 TB. lol. Good luck with your show car.

If my car is "car show" then I will buy pcm tray make it look neat.

If my car is daily driving then I will use something to hold it.

Everyone have many different ways to hold it down. wink

As long as the filter doesn't manage to rub through the PCM wires , then you're good to go.. wink
