XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 12:46 AM

Car is back together and running. Man it's been a h-ll of a weekend. I'm really tired so I'll tell more about it later, but here's an exhaust video clip and the link to the picture album. I did get the 3.4" pulley on, but haven't really been able to get on it because I'm giving the fuel trims time to settle. Enjoy!

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 12:57 AM

It's loud as heck man. I love how it sounds, I just wish it were a bit quieter. I'm going to have to have a downpipe welded up after my header install, so I'll probably have my exhaust guy put a glasspack in while it's all apart.

Put it this way - with 1 being ridiculously simple and 10 being impossible, I'd call it easily an 8.

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 01:02 AM

How did u change your valve springs without your valves falling into your heads. thats my concern cause the shops around here r wanting to charge $1000 and up to do the cam swap.... mad devileek

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 01:36 PM

I have two concerns. One being the sound, good luck getting races now!! WOOT! And the other, I only see exhaust fumes coming out the driver side exhaust tip, unless the video isn't capturing the passenger side tip. But I hope this time you get what you put in, HP!

CamSwap12-16 pics, I wish my big @$$ could get up on the engine bay and do that. 6'5" and hate to bend the knees like that, I will just stick to the ground and work from there!!

some light rope inserted into the holes for the spark plugs will hold the valves up and keep them from falling in.

Man that exhaust sound makes me jealous.

another way is to get an adapter for an airhose, and compressed air will hold it up, doesnt take alot of preasure, just a few pounds to hold the valve up.

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 04:48 PM

Dude that sounds soo rough...You gotta take it to the track and see what it does.

But hey you still runnin that stock tranny? If so that thing must hate you with a passion haha.

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 09:15 PM

I noticed u did not do the valve springs??
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 10:40 PM

Nope, I did change the valvesprings, put in 105# springs. I used the air adapter to keep the valves up. It was really quite simple, and changing out the valvesprings isn't hard, its just time consuming.

Still stock tranny. No problems yet, knock on wood!

Took the car out for a spin today, and dropped the hammer once or twice, man that thing pulls! Car won't hook until about 45 mph, and I'm sure it'll get better once I get my S&S headers on (I'm picking them up tommorow) and getting it tuned. The guy who helped me with the cam was going to tune it but he didn't have the latest software.

Uhhh... negatory on that one bro. Pulling the motor is NOT fun and it's not easy. Lots of stuff to remember and make sure you do it right, otherwise you can mess something up quick. I would've never done it without the help I had (a 30+ yr retired mechanic helped me do it)

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 10:50 PM

ok thanks .. what needed to be done to get the angle on the motor to do the cam swap?
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: XP cam install - success!!! - 06/03/07 10:53 PM

lower the cradle. loosen the two bolts on the driver's side of the engine bay, and with a jack in place to hold it, remove the two passenger side bolts. slowly lower the jack and the cradle will come with it.

be careful to not lower it too far, or your steering linkage can pop loose.

Nice, one of the baddest sound I heard from a gp lately. Good luck trying to race somebody because if it was me I would make a turn before racing you of just from the sound of your exhaust. laugh

sure... try it out! then i'd like to hear what you say lol

if you are doing a cam and the top swap, then i would recommend pulling the motor. get someone who is knowledgeable and can help though. I would not do this on your own if I were you.
