Electrical Problem --FIXED--- - 06/17/07 03:36 PM

Well Its plan and simple, I go to turn on the blower for A/C, defroster, if its on level 1 or 5 it works, but if I turn it on to level 2-4 everything shuts off, I talking about everything, Dashlights, headlights, Digital DIC, everything. I checked all the wires that are hooked up to the blower switch everything and nothing seems to br the problem. I can;t firure it out for the life of me. I was going to order a new blower switch to see if that was it but I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help.....?

I would check the blower fan resistor... may have gotten wet and shorted..causing feed back to the rest of the system. These r know to be bad in GM's
Try disconnecting it and see what happens

it's in the steering column, it took me about 3 hrs to swap out... you need an E4 socket, cost for the actual switch replacement is about $90

I don't see why you would need a replacement column... my replacement switch was a bundle of wires with a plug on one end and a black box on the other end.

I looked it up on AutoZone's website and it listed them this way: Ignition Switch

Without Console: LS950 $61.99
With Console: LS927 $89.99

Hope that helps clear things up... cheers

Ours is with console. Without means you have a rare bench seater, ala lonezergling.

X2! The last time I replaced one(99 GP SE 3.1L w/console), that part went for approx. $120 from the $tealership. Someone tried to install an aftermarket alarm, and made a mess of the ignition switch harness...

I was gonna say... I paid 90ish for mine, and it was the only option from my local parts store.

Re: Electrical Problem --FIXED--- - 06/24/07 03:37 PM

Well its fixed, but I guess it just on the 97s but I couldn;t find the E5 socket, I have only down to E6 and no store had the E5 so I I got them out with a small pair of channel locks then just used diff screws when putting it back. Also as an FYI if you are planning to change the Igition switch any time soon DONT get a remote start for your car, everyting is taped into the igition switch and its not fun retaping into the new harness. Other then that thanks for all your help guys.

Re: Electrical Problem --FIXED--- - 06/25/07 10:11 AM

I had to use an E4 socket (it's really tiny) and just the socket alone cost me $10 from a specialty tool store.

Glad you got it figured out cheers
