Electric Supercharger - 04/24/07 02:07 PM

Has anyone seen these? At first I laughed, but then I looked at it and was like wait a minute, for someone with a GT, this might not actually be that crazy. Any opinions? What about the chips that "add horsepower"? Has anyone tried or heard anything about those either?

Both are hilariously false.
For the amount of electrical power it would take to spin the electric supercharger, the mechanical load on your alternator might be even greater than the tiny amount of gained power.
Don't do it. Your $150 is spent much better on something else.

Some of the "chips" are just 5 cent resistors that are put in place of the intake air temperature sensor, tricking the computer into thinking its colder and giving you a little bit more timing. You won't notice a difference, and in some cases the added timing will just cause more KR and cause a loss of power because the PCM will overcompensate, etc.

Yea dude, that stuff is lame. Although! The electric supercharger thing (which isnt really a SC because a SC is defined by being belt-driven) would do the same thing as if you put a leaf blower in the intake. Which actually does gain a couple HP (tested on an SUV with and without the "SC") but totally lame and stupid, plus it uses power from the battery which kills it.

Theres also the posibility the electric thing could just create unneeded turbulance or even slow the intake air velocity down some.

Theres another big post around about the feasibility of the electric motor power output being big enough to make any engine power.
