We either really need to sticky this subject or sticky a need to do a search on this subject.

ANYWAY, since I'm bored, I'll answer your question instead of routing you to another topic.

Ok, first things first.

The stock cat-back is not restricitve. At all. Seriously.

Any power gains you get are going to come from ported manifolds, headers, larger downpipes, high flow cats, and u-bend deletes.

After those though, you aren't getting any performance gains, it's all cosmetic and acoustic.

I run Pacesetter headers with a 3" cat'd downpipe into a custom resonator-less 2.5" stainless SE-style cat-back with one Flowmaster Super 40 and a big bore resonating tip.

My car is very loud. Not 454 Chevy with Zoomies loud, but WAY louder than stock.

I have terrible exhaust leaks from the headers but witht he XP cam, you can hear EVERY LOPE of the cam.

Without the resonator, there will be lots of in-car noise. Maybe not the brain rattling drone like many say but you WILL hear your exhausr plain as day inside the car.

Here's what I'm going to say you do.

If you want a good sound but DON'T want ti loud, I'd say get the usual 3" cat'd downpipe w/ u-bend delete from ZZP and maybe a P-log.

That will open up your exhaust a little bit, make it a little deeper but nothing much. That stuff is good for at least 10hp AND it gives your exhaust a better note. The cat-back won't give you anything and costs 2x as much.

From then on, if you want a better TONE out of the car, your best bet is to have an exhaust shop weld in 2 aftermarket mufflers in place of the stock ones. Flowmaster Super 40s and Magnaflows are the top ones around here. Grab a set of resonating tips in the style you want and you will have a nice deep exhaust.

I have on my GTX the SLP 2.5" Catback system with no resonator. The mufflers are dampened just enough to keep any drone down quite well. And they are relatively cheap too as compared to some of the other exhaust kits out on the market.

Like Lone said, most of your power is going to come from Manifolds, and downpipe along with the highflow cat or race pipe with the U Bend delete.

I have waiting to install my Hogan 3" DP with the Magnaflow/Carsound Highflow cat and will be getting a 309 Power Log ceramic coated really soon. That should help spice things up a bit more smile

I had the resonator replaced with a straight piece or pipe and replaced teh stock mufflers with summit fully welded mufflers which are chambered style. They hav ea nice rumble an dno drone, plus they are $38 each. The 3" chrome rolled tips look great too. I have $66 magnaflows on my wifes 04 Monte and our two cars sound almost the same. I thought I would give the summit brand a shot, and I am happy I did.

Iirc Summit uses the same designes as Magnaflow just different name. And your not paying for the name. Alot of us on here bought our muffs from performance peddler on Ebay. I picked up my flowmasters for 35 a piece. Last time I checked he had to raise his prices and were somewhere arougn 45 a piece. Still cheaper then buying from an actual store. And he does sell magnaflows for super cheap as well.
