Gas mileage - 11/23/07 10:05 AM

I have 2 questions...what kind of gas mileage should I be getting? (I am canadian) and my rear passenger seat belt will not come out, it comes out a few inches and then is locked...any idea how to fix that?

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 11:04 AM

your gas mileage all depends on how you drive .. if you have a heavy foot it could be less ... and how much city driving and how much highway driving you do ... idk i do quite a bit of highway driving and on a good trip i will ave 21mpg

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 11:16 AM

I average 20 for my commuting which is 50% freeway and the rest stop and go in town.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 08:04 PM

I've never really checked mine commuting or intown...when I take a hi-way trip I figure if it does good then it must be doing ok around town. On the road I usually cruise around 70mph and get between 26-27mpg...given the performance and room the car has I'm very satisfied with that.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 08:06 PM

tbat how do you get so lucky and get that kind of milage
Posted by: ordonez1307

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 09:20 PM

26-27 isnt really lucky, thats pretty average, maybe just a bit above. a decent tune, good maintenance (tire pressure, plugs, wires, etc) can net you that

i wish i could get that kind of milage

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 09:40 PM

With my little 3.1, doing half highway and half stop, sit, go two feet, stop... I get around 26. It will get up to 29 or so with a bottle of Lucas Upper Cylinder.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 10:52 PM

Now that I have the CAI and the U-bend gone, my commute is getting me right around 22-23mpg, which is 17 miles at 70mph and then 3 miles of stop/go/stop/go traffic. Each way. And it's been fairly consistent.

I ran a bottle of Chevron injector cleaner through it a couple of tanks ago, and last weekend I CRC cleaned the MAF, but neither one of those things did much except give me a smoother idle.

I guess my injectors and MAF were clean enough anyway. But one thing for sure, it didn't hurt, and now I can forget about those two things for a little while.

Stop and go bumper-to-bumper traffic on my old commute before I moved out to the sticks was right around 17-18mpg. That was kind of disappointing, but I'm much happier now. And I've been reading this forum long enough to get some slick tricks and tips, too.

man are you guys kidding me... i got injector cleaner and filled up the tank... and im driving like a granny and it says 17.2 on the DIC... i havent calculated it out yet to find out for sure but man that's crazy... i used to get 15 and less but i have a lead foot that never comes up... it's really bad like really

15mpg city when I baby it.

I really need a new 02 sensor...

Re: Gas mileage - 11/23/07 11:51 PM

Completely stock, I get 17-18.5 city (don't do much highway), depending on how many ricers I meet, or how many slow idiots I need to pass (but then again, that's the same thing, right? laugh )

I actually got about 19 when I was using regular unleaded...lol

Re: Gas mileage - 11/24/07 12:05 AM

Get an Aeroforce, tells you instant. It is cool how just the slightest bit in road, level change, wind will throw it off. I can get 27-30 on the highway. I just did a calculation and both city and highway I got 22.56 out of the tank, that was 365/16.XX gallons I refilled at.

Nothing better than modding (and tuning) and getting way better performance as well as increaded gas mileage!! Modding FTW!! WOOT!

Re: Gas mileage - 11/24/07 01:38 AM

CAI, HVTB, Hi flow cat, no U bend, better plugs and wires...89 fuel...I think all are contributing factors to the mileage...plus if I set the cruise on 65 I have gotten 30mpg before, which I find astounding, especially given the GT's lower gearing.

Thats great stuff...I tell ya the automakers should do a little learning from their own work. The low pressure boost and taller gearing of the GTP make for a winning combo of power and efficency. Volvos have used low pressure turbos for quite a few years now with good success. I'm still amazed at how many new cars there are out there with 4cyls that still cant do 30mpg. (My Mom's PT Cruiser struggles to get 30 if at all)

i really need to start checking some stuff ... and figure out y i dont get the good mpg like everyone else lol

Most of these numbers are highway. I don't think you are using the highway that much, correct me if I am wrong.

true ... myn is about 75h 25c

Re: Gas mileage - 11/25/07 10:47 AM

That's exactly one of the reasons I love my GP so much. Getting 23 mpg on my drive to work looks better and better as gas continues to go up.

It would take me 5 gallons of gas to go to/from work in the Malibu, and about 4 gallons in the pickup.

And less than 2 gallons in the GP.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/25/07 03:14 PM

im gettin aroun 23-24 highway at 60MPH wit the cruise set. i usually fill-up every 10 days, when the pin hits around 1/8 tank. It's been costing me around 42-45 bucks to fill up i'd say, not bad for the GTP

Re: Gas mileage - 11/25/07 05:28 PM

before i changed my plugs i was getting 14 city and 22 hw, now i got new plugs and im getting 25 hw and 17 city....yeah!!!! it may get better than that since i am going to get a new o2 sensor wich i am in need of badley

I get the same with my GTP but it goes to 25MPG on the highway

Re: Gas mileage - 11/26/07 05:10 PM

I drive a lot of city miles, 3rd gear stuff, and the pedal has become my best friend. devilgrin

But I don't get any less than 20 mpg. I don't understand how it manages that, but I'm not complaining. GTP ftw?

Re: Gas mileage - 11/28/07 12:51 PM

Anybody put a homemade CAI and lose their gas milage? I lost 2 miles with mine. I have a 3" pipe now and filter, I am going with a 4" pipe and the K&N 4" X 9" to see if there is a difference.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/28/07 12:59 PM

I pull in an average of 22-24mpg with mixed driving. I still need to do some tuning though.

Re: Gas mileage - 11/28/07 09:51 PM

wow. im getting an average of 16-16.5. id say 60% city 40% highway. on long highway runs i was gettin 20-21. that might be because of the 125k catalytic converter thats rattling like crazy though. o well, it was the perfect excuse for my 2.5" downpipe, high flow cat, and u-bend delete. well see what the difference is when i put it on.

You'll see a difference, especially if your cat is near clogged.

Re: Gas mileage - 07/19/08 04:58 AM

I drive secondary roads almost all the time, speed mostly from 45 to 55 and have to slow down for towns along the way, get consistent 28 to 29 mpg in my 02 GT. I think the lower gearing helps in my case because the transmission stays in 4th gear and the TC stays locked up when I'm going up a hill, and there are lots of those in Maine.

I recently experienced the plugged cat syndrome and 20gtp02 is 100% right about noticing a difference...it was 5 mpg for me

Re: Gas mileage - 07/20/08 09:53 PM

With the GTP it would be tough to get very good mileage, but if you're willing to drive more like granny and less like racer X a stock GT will get very good mpg. I just had transmission rebuilt and now get 23 mpg in mixed commute w/ AC on about 1/2 time. In all highway trip this weekend cruising 70 - 75 mph I got 26+ mpg - one tank was 27.5 mpg.

Man thats weak.

I get 20mpg directly in town, 26mpg between towns (like back or side roads) and on my recentrock to Maryland the past 2 weeks I was sitting at 33mpg

Re: Gas mileage - 07/21/08 09:32 AM

Nope.

With the cruise set at 67 I can get 34mpg out of my GTP. Only mods are an open cone intake and ZZP PCM.
