*Update* HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 02/06/12 02:59 PM

Anyone replace this?
My left three vents blow warm/hot while right side vents blow cold.
Recently had new compressor installed and system checked.
Leaning towards this part for a fix.
Thanks

Yea, my friend did on his girlfriends GTP. It was PITA.

Have fun.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 02/07/12 04:08 PM

Great. The write up sounds easy though...lol
No point in spending $600 on a/c repair if it still blows
warm. I need to fix this part.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/14/12 11:36 AM

Finally installed new actuator after it collected dust on the shipping box for two months.
Well I still have the heat blowing out the left three vents.
Perfectly cold and fine on right two vents.
Not 100% sure I install correctly. Went on the shaft fine.
The shaft rotates 90%. So I'm not sure if I need to have it 90% rotated and try again.
Anyhow. It's hot and I got a new compressor I'd like to be using.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/18/12 09:36 AM

I feel for ya because I don't know of an easy way of getting those actuators out. I took a couple out of a junker and it was a major PIA but maybe the instructions help?

My problem has been the cold air will stop blowing out of the vents but I think I've narrowed it down to being low on freon. Last year we added some to it and it worked well throughout for the year but come this year I believe it leaked some back out so I added some more. I need to get a guy test it for leaks before it gets really bad!

I hope you're able to get your problem fixed though. Do you have digital dual climate control or the other one? Maybe the unit is bad?

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/20/12 04:48 PM

No I don't have the digital climate control.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/21/12 11:07 PM

Hello, If you have the dual climate control then you may have two actuators. I have the single so All my vents were blowing hot, so I manually turned the shaft with a nail on the end, it blew cold so I knew what my problem was before removing the actuator. I was really pissed because it was hot, I'm really lovin that cold air now. Try the other side and Good Luck.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/23/12 06:43 PM

GTPJack, what do you mean the other side?
Thanks

What makes it dual?
I have the two lever one, where one can adjust temp on driver side
Or passenger side.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/23/12 10:52 PM

Herc, that's just early years (digital dual, my '98 has it). Around '00 they switched to manual dual climate and got rid of the digital completely.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/24/12 06:37 PM

Is there an actuator on passenger side?
Posted by: RooK

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/25/12 01:03 AM

I'm not sure where it's at, but there should be two. One that changes the temp of the air separately for the passenger.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/26/12 06:20 PM

I'm guessing you'd have two because it worked for you after you changed the one on the driver's side. When I was buying my actuator, I was at the dealer and I remember him saying that the dual climate where you have a separate control for each side has two actuators. Go to the dealer and they can print out a digram and show you where it is.

Thanks BlackArrow.
According to that, there is a bunch of actuators and controls.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/27/12 06:44 PM

I just did an investigation.
I turned the air on and watched both side actuators.
The driver side is a new actuator.
The passenger side actuator appears to work fine when I adjust the temp setting.
The driver side, however, without touching the temp setting I can see the actuator on the fritz. The actuator rotates back and fourth like it can't decide to go warm or cold.
Because sometimes I do get cold air but most time its warm.
So something is causing the actuator to rotate without telling it to rotate by adjusting the temp setting.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/30/12 04:06 PM

😰. It's hot in FL!!

Any help?
It intermittently blows cold.
Something's changing the doors to make
It blow warm/hot.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 05/31/12 12:24 PM

You say you recently had the compressor changed and the system checked.

Iirc shouldn't the air dryer and something else be changed when you open the system as well?

Have you had the freon level checked again?

iirc low freon level will cause the issues you have.

I guess what I'm saying is just because the compressor was changed and the system checked then doesn't mean a leak has occurred since then.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/03/12 10:30 PM

I'm with Herc, check those freon levels. It might not be it but it could that if the system has a little leak to it or something just didn't go right when charging the system.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/23/12 12:49 PM

Took the gtp in for ac check.
Freon levels fine.
Its electrical.
Occasionally it will blow cold, but only for a few seconds.
It will switch to heat.
I don't know where to go or do.
I could try dealer, to diagnose it, then go from there.
But I don't want to even go there for that, don't trust them on anything.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/23/12 06:47 PM

Get a used control head and swap it see what happens.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/24/12 09:20 PM

The actuators are easy to test. Unplug the vacumn line and hook up a MITYVAC...its a handheld vacumn pump. It has a gauge on it showing vacumn. When you pump it up, the actuator should move fully, and hold vacumn. Do this first. Turn on the A/C and give vacumn to the actuator and you will get your cold air back. In all my years working on these models I've never seen an actuator go bad. In MANY past experiences with your same problem, it is just the climate control unit. Get another one from a salvage yard.

The only actuators I ever saw go bad were the ones under the hood on models that had secondary air injection.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/25/12 06:58 PM

when u say secondary air injection, what years had that cuz im chasing the same prob. cold on passenger side and warm on driver side, this is with the regular single cntrl unit

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/27/12 01:25 AM

Not sure when they started sec. air inj, but I know they were power robbing emission devices. An actuator for each exhaust manifold would open and an electric blower pump forced fresh air into the exhaust making it cleaner out of the tailpipe.....but if they're grabbing air that was in our atmosphere already what's the point? LOL!!!

It doesn't matter what control unit you have, they all fail sometimes, just do the test like I explained. If the blend door actuator is ok and holds vacumn...its either one of the small plastic hoses or the control head. I've never seen an actuator or line go bad, just the control head....

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/30/12 11:09 AM

Bought a used control unit off ebay.
However, I got the three dial one, not the dual lever one.
UGHHHH
I may try it anyhow to see if I can get driver side to blow cold.

I got this one:

But currently in the car is this one:

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 06/30/12 08:04 PM

So I hooked it up, even though its the wrong control head for my gtp.
So now the driver side blows cold and hard, and pass warm.
So that leaves me to believe the original control head was the issue.
Now I just need to get the right replacement control head.
Wasn't paying enough attention when I purchase this one online.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 07/14/12 06:22 PM

After sending back the wrong control unit, my goof on ordering, and spending extra money on my goof I installed a used dual correct unit.
COLD AC!
Not sure if it was coincidence or not, but the wrong head unit in the car killed my battery, $187 red top.
My warranty wasn't showing in computer, and I had no receipt, I had to chuck out that $187.
So after many months of sweating, I finally can ride in the GTP cool again.

Re: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 07/14/12 08:09 PM

Pure coincedence and Red tops are not as good as they use to be. There are other agm batteries out there. Plus there is even a Lio battery you can use.

If not Optima, who would you recommend? I heard good stuff about Braille batteries. Who makes the Li battery?

Glad you found the problem, enjoy the nice cold AC.

Re: *Update* HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 07/18/12 11:09 PM

Maybe i need to try my extra digital dual climate head unit in our car. It has been blowing semi-cold air and just not working like it has in the past blowing air that will freeze you out.

I don't see any error codes on it though but I might just swap it out and see what happens. I know the car has a freon link on the high side connector but I just haven't had a chance to get a guy to swap it out. With it full of freon on a hot day though, it just doesn't cool like it should!

Congrats though on getting it fixed. Enjoy your cold air again!

Re: *Update* HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator - 07/19/12 10:54 AM

If it's leaking it doesn't matter what control head you have in. You need to address the leak first and foremost.

That's exactly my problem and that's exactly what I was gonna purchase, thanks For posting your experience!
