Guess the dyno numbers!

Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/18/07 10:15 PM

I wanna see what you all think I'll put down on the dyno tommorow. Closest guess wins something fantastic that is yet to be determined!!

I'm gonna guess 228 whp, 260 ft lbs tq.

That's just a shot in the dark. Give me your guesses, I'm interested to see. The mods are in my sig, and for anyone who may not know (is there anyone) my car is a top swapped GT with the stock 3.8" pulley.

aren't stock gtp's suppose to have 240 hp/260 lbs. trq? i'm gonna say around 250hp/280lbs. trq...but i'm just throwing #'s out there! good luck!

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/18/07 10:53 PM

That's the HP numbers at the flywheel. You lose a decent amount throughout the powertrain, so dyno's measure how many horses you're getting to the pavement.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/18/07 11:09 PM

I'm guessing 220hp/255tq.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/19/07 01:12 AM

ill go 230hp/270tq

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/19/07 09:56 AM

Stock GTP only puts down about 195-205hp at the wheels (vehicles and baro conditions vary)

I'm between 230 and 240 for hp.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/19/07 09:47 PM

Welp... here's the results... Rook you win!

212.4 whp, 239.8 ft lbs tq

We were all pretty generous as it turns out. I really thought it would be quite a bit higher. I can't complain though, my stock dyno would be nowhere near that! smile

I'm going to the track tommorow to see what that translates into ET-wise!

All of my parameters for the tune looked good, car runs and drives AWESOME now!!! I had one pull that had was slightly higher results, but I was getting a couple degrees of KR in the lower end, so he added a little fuel in and removed some timing so it cut back a few HP.

All in all though, hammer

Sweet deal on the dyno. I'm curious to see what you run at the track though.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/19/07 10:19 PM

I dunno, that makes me think that dyno was off.

That seems like a low number for the time you ran and the mods you have.

Prolly a Mustang dyno?

I'm not sure about the different types of dynos but I believe this one was designed for RWD cars. They were having trouble getting a good pull on the car, so who knows. Maybe it was off, because I thought it seemed low as well, since a stock L67 is 195 whp.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/20/07 12:44 AM

was it possible you were getting some tire slippage on the dyno rollers? that could throw things off. I have seen cars smoke the tires on a wheel dyno before and you cant possibly be accurate with that happening...even still, almost 20 more ponies on the ground over a stock GTP is nothing to sneeze at. Thats a far cry over what a stock GT is putting on the pavement. Car must feel like a rocket (this is really taunting me btw...Ed sent me a price on parts for top swap...very tempting) hammer hammer

x80 bagillion!! do it!

and drummer, that seems wayy too low. im disappointed in those #'s. Our cars are pretty similar, (swap the headers for your cam). I want to see your 1/4 when you run it

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/20/07 11:46 PM

If I do the swap it will be while before I think anout tackling it since my car is still my DD...and I would want to take my time do a lot of detail work...but it is very tempting and much cheaper than the turbo kit...I've got struts,an intake job, tranny cooler and a ram air hood to handle first.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 12:25 AM

Well fellas, looks like this top swap business didn't work out as well as I had hoped, at least in my case. I just got back from the track and my PB tonight was 14.518 @ 95.1 MPH. frown

I couldn't get traction until well after the 60' mark, and even then it barked 'em pretty good on the 1-2 shift. I don't know if I need better tires, or if my car just isn't performing like I thought it would. I figured even if I couldn't hit 13's like I wanted, I would still be hitting solid mid-low 14's.

So I'm going back Sunday, and it's supposed to be nice and hot, and I'm gonna lower the tire pressure 10 psi or so. Maybe that will help me hook better, and get some better times.

I must admit; I'm pretty disappointed with my car's performance over the last couple of days.
Posted by: 20gtp02

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 12:41 AM

Well you shouldn't be disappointed, just because your numbers aren't there, if you don't have traction then know that your numbers ought to be much lower, so think of it that way.

List your mods something is off with your setup, possibly your tune .Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 01:10 AM

Couple questions that might have an effect: What's your altitude? Was the track prepped properly?
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 01:25 AM

Chico, mods are in my sig. Basically top end swap with IS1 N/A cam, PEM's, DP, and CAI.

Rook, the elevation is about 800 ft above sea level at the local drag strip. I'm not sure on the prepping question, because this was my first time actually running a car at the track so I wouldn't know how to compare it.

I didn't do too bad in the launches, it just spun like crazy. (.122 was my best R/T, and I had a 2.16 60')

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 02:02 AM

I hate to say that Intense N/A cam may be part of your problem if I had known you were going to do a top swap I would have steered you away,I just looked at the mods on the test ZZP M-90 dyno Regal and they got 253whp and 300 wtq this is on a 150k engine with only u-bend and resonator delete and a open cone, the good knews you can drop pulley sizes to a 3.4 fairly safely with your mods and a custom tune from a knowlegable tuner should help.Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 11:48 AM

So would it be advantageous to think about swapping cams to an XP or Blower cam from Intense?

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 02:24 PM

I would try to tune for the cam you have but I do'nt think with the duration you have your golden but you may come up with a better set of numbers.Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 06:01 PM

As for your ETs youg gotta get that wheel spin under control before you can get some good numbers.

Oh and find yourself some 16" torque stars for use at the drag strip. Those 17s are robbing you.
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 07:07 PM

Herc- I will definitely look into that. Would the 5-star wheels work as well, because I know a guy locally who is selling some of those for cheap.

Chico- by "tuning" for the cam, do you mean raising the shift points and rev limiters? I think on my 1-2 & 2-3 shifts the rev limiter hit before the shift point because it was hesitating before finally grabbing.

Also, I'm pretty sure the guy who tuned my car set the shift points back to stock. So maybe if I can get those raised up and get a little more powerband that might help me net some better ET's.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 07:30 PM

a 2.1 60' time isnt that bad. I know your car has more in it. I would have to blame that tune. I was able to run much better times and you have a cam. There is a whole lot more power under there!
Posted by: gteisele

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/21/07 07:44 PM

yea 16" drags would be the best $300 mod to get those times down u were def spinning alot because with your power those numbers should be better

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 01:51 AM

I'm really starting to think Chico is right, that my cam with the top swap isn't working well at all. Check out the comparisons. I assume boosted applications require a higher exhaust lift in order to properly exhaust all that extra air?

Intense S1X N/A Cam
212º/216º at .050” Duration
Intake Lift .327" (.523" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
Exhaust Lift .321" (.514" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
113 Lobe Separation

XP hot cam
212°/224° at .050" Duration
Intake Lift .325" (.520" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
Exhaust Lift .335" (.536" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
116 Lobe Separation

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 05:35 AM

Contact Intense and see what they suggest for shift points in your situation.I would say shift points around 6300-6400 with that cam should give you much better results.Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 08:36 AM

The 16" torque stars are the lightest set of 16" wheels you are going to find. You only need a pair of them to run on the front.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 09:06 AM

For shift points that high will I have to run upgraded springs?
Posted by: Chico

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 09:15 AM

I would run 90lb springs but you could try stock springs and see if your getting any valve float.Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 04:39 PM

chico u had to throw that zex kit on even after the top swap....would ne one on this site beat you lol?......looks great props!!!
Posted by: ordonez1307

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 06:08 PM

for that high of shift points i would think that springs/retainers would be a must
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/22/07 09:15 PM

As it looks right now, I'm gonna just switch to an XP cam. Several people have run them with their top swaps and had great results. One guy I talked to ran a 13.5 with the stock pulley and an XP cam. It's gonna be a hassle spending all the money to do a cam install over again but I'm confident I can do it now since I've already done it once. I'm also certain I'll be able to see the 13's I want with that setup.

Even with all the work/money involved in doing a cam swap again, it'll be easier than trying to make a cam work on a setup it's not designed for. Maybe for the time being I'll raise the shift points to 6200 and keep the stock springs, but by the end of the summer I wanna have that XP in.

I guess for future reference... DO NOT use N/A cams on a top swap setup.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/23/07 05:12 AM

would the stock L67 cam be a good choice if you were going for mild performance?...and still retain some good fuel mileage?
Posted by: Chico

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/23/07 07:18 AM

Stock cam and 1.9 rockers would be a good choice for a DD .Chico.

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/23/07 10:08 AM

looking at the trouble drummerboy is having with his non boosted cam....am i able to boost with the comp cam 801 i havnt looked into it yet just wondering....i agree with chico with the stock cam and 1.9 rockers

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/23/07 03:55 PM

if that cam is made for an N/A car, then no, you wouldnt benefit from it with a blower. Im too lazy to go and look up the #'s

so was i thats why i asked ordonez haha
Posted by: drummerboy1307

Re: Guess the dyno numbers! - 04/23/07 09:39 PM

not only will you not benefit, it may hurt you. with all my mods I dyno'ed only 17 whp above a stock GTP. I'm really thinking its the cam that's killing me, because of the short exhaust duration.
